Adjust Idle
 

Hello. Can someone tell me how to adjust the idle so the RPMs are slightly over 1000?

I have done a tune up already.. plugs, coils, wires, air filter.. stock engine..

Get an AccessPORT or aftermarket ECU. Adjust the idle tables to the desired idle point. Reflash the ECU with the changed tables. There is no idle speed screw like drive-by-wire cars.

What the others have said, Cobb Accessport.

Why do you need such a high idle anyways?

Go ahead and clean your MAF sensor too. That has a lot to do with the idle.

I'll chime in here. I would like to up my idle speed because, in the humid south, when sitting at a red light in the daytime, at idle, the AC compressor doesn't turn fast enough to cool so well. I have to try and rev the engine a bit manually in order to keep the compressor spinning sufficiently.

Actually, in those conditions, while a higher idle will help the AC, the higher idle will be dumping more heat into the coolant, heat that is already going to have a hard time being shed while at idle in temps that you would use the AC, and the AC condenser will also be dumping even more heat into the air right in front of the radiator, further reducing the cooling ability of the radiator.

Frankly, that may be good for comfort, but it's a recipe for disaster on our engines. It would be better to just deal with the heat.

That's a simple problem to be fixing with a higher idle... Do both of your cooling fans work correctly?

Yes, exactly. Every situation in which a higher idle is a "Solution", it means that you are ignoring the real problem.

It could also simply lead to melting through your fuel tank and possibly loosing your car to a fire. Check your recalls for to make sure you have the heat shielding installed before you bump it up.



I would place a bet that the only thing you really need to do is replace the cabin air filters.



If that doesn't work then wash your radiator and have have your ac checked with a set of gauges not just the craptastic autozone low pressure gauge.

The ac puts out plenty to keep the car cool in 100 Deg and 98% humidity of south Louisiana. And 110 Deg Ft worth with no humidity, so I doubt you are dealing with that much more heat.

Also keep your foot off the floor to keep your ac turned on.


Edit: or if you really beleive the compressor is not turning fast enough get a overdrive pully.

I believe he read it but most dont know what a Cobb accessport is and or dont want to pay between $500-$1200 for it, and I was wondering as well because mine wont idle after I fixed my codes and wanted to turn up the idle without paying that kind of money, so no need to be rude like that, not all are knowledgeable on everything rx, hopefully you dont take offense at this either and that turns people away when others are rude like that, so please be nice so others can actually get help when they need it, thanks in advance ;)

Anyways, why not change the pulley size to speed up the AC instead of messing with your engine to spin it faster? Also I suggest going with mazdaedit or versatune now adays instead of cobb.

Before that what about replacing your AC system components? It is relatively cheap to do. Also replacing your fan blower can help as the driver side can blow fairly weak if your blower motor is failing.
