ACT clutch/flywheel installed. Normal flywheel chatter? *video*

Just had my mechanic install a ACT HDSS clutch + Prolite flywheel on my car and im getting alot of chatter and clunking sounds when rolling out in 1st gear (low RPM only). Just want to make sure these sounds were of the norm. The rattling sound is when I press the clutch in, than it goes away when the clutch is out.

Also, I noticed the engagement point of the clutch is higher now compared to the OEM clutch. Is it suppose to be like that?

Jack, did your mechanic remember to instal the pilot bearing or replace it ?

Well I didnt ask him personally if he did, but I did give him a new pilot bearing in the clutch kit so I would assume so.

Bad installation.

Should make no clatter sounds.

Hmmm anymore input on this? This is what I found from searching.

lighter flywheel / clutch combo just amplifies more of the engine and transmission noises. The engine has power pules which create mechanical noises. Then there is the transmission that has gears that mesh which has backlash (looseness / slack).

All that harmonics is amplified when you install a light weight flywheel creating a "rattle" noise. If the clutch has a spring hub center, that will help with some sound absorption. If it's a solid hub, there is nothing else to absorb the power pulses and transmission backlash, therefore the "rattle" is more pronounced.

As you noticed this only happens at idle with foot off the clutch. Above a few hundred RPM the noise goes away as the engine / trans speed up and the creating increased sound frequency (power pluses) so that the noise is present.

The clutch engagement point can be adjusted.

Mine does not make that noise and neither do other cars with light fly wheel and new clutch.
