accelerator pedal wire harness melted help.....

Please help..I recently bought a 2004 Mazda RX8 I am mechanically inclined but I don't know much about rotary engines or why the harness that goes to the accelerator pedal melted together resulting in automatic shutdown.
What would be the cause for this..

It melted? Do you have pictures? Things melt because of high current but the pedal isn't a high current circuit. All I can think of is someone had the battery connected backwards for a while.

Is the car right hand drive? If so maybe the harness got too close to the exhaust or the catalytic converter is damaged and getting red hot

I will go take some photos to post to help diagnose my problem.it is not right hand drive btw.

any idea? My wife did put it in the Ditch a few days prior. But didn't seem to damage anything except the front bumper and bent in the passenger oil cooler brackets. Could this have a play in it.

A short to ground can cause unfused wiring to start melting. Have you checked the fuse panel for any blown fuses or fuses of a higher amperagerating installed where they should not be? This will indicate if any other circuits are affected. How much of the wiring melted? From the pictures it appears quite a bit.

The only wiring that I have been able to locate and what I posted pictures of is the only wiring that melted it seems to be the accelerator pedal harness and nothing more.
I did replace a few fuses that had blown because I lost my tail lights and I noticed that under the hood two spots where there was connections for a fuse but no fuse was so I placed a fuse there based on what the Diagram showed under the cover then I drove about one mile and was sitting at a idle for a few minutes when it died I instantly noticed the smell of burning electrical and then began pulling fuses as I noticed smoke beginning to come from the vent ontop the dash.i towed it back home and haven't touched it since.

Can you identify the colour of the wire that is most burnt? Maybe we can trace what it connects to.

There is photos of the melted wires above in the beginning of this post it looks like a 12gage red wire and a 12gage tan or light brown wire possibly yellowish were the main ones they Plug into the accelerator pedal and a little square black box idk what it is then they go up to another box a white one that's located directly behind the fuse box under the dash

I'm back

Ok so update on my car I just got it back from the mazda dealership where I took it in to have the recalls fixed and get the wiring fixed.well they didn't touch my car at all and it sat there for over a month so looks like I'm doing it myself and may need some guidance throughout:
here's where I'm at I got a used oem 2004 mt wiring harness offline (not sure if it's the right one) are there other models or should the one I bought work for my car? And should I use the new harness or just trace the melted wires until I find and get separated apart and just cut and run new wire and repin the plug any feedback is helpful thank you

Googling the part number reveals that the difference appears to be FE05 is for a 9-speaker stereo setup, while FE06 is for the 6-speaker. So it should work for most things except that?
As for root cause, the wire for the middle brake light can fray with time, usually inside the little rubber accordion section. If it were to short on the trunk metal, perhaps this is what would happen. Still surprising, but the burning is a pretty good indicator :/

Newly updated

ok so I've installed new/old oem behind the dash and rear wiring harness everything seems to be in working order so far, lights- interior/exterior working windows door locks etc all work but when I put the key in and turn the ignition I get a blinking red car with a key beeping at me and won't turn over what do I need to do now and why is my key not working?

Loki 05-29-2021 11:48 PM

Sounds like you need to program the key to the ECU. The antitheft in the ECU is preventing you from starting because it doesn't recognize the key. The dealer can do that or you can try one of your other keys. If one works, I ttthink you can program the others on your own. If none work you need the dealer.

RastaRx-8 05-30-2021 11:17 PM

yes the immobilizer has been reset you will have to program your key to it there is a method to do it yourself if you had one working key . make sure your relays are good (swap a few around ) maybe the ign relay got toasted

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-...utputs-155947/

i think you can check with that immobilizer test what the issue is then if you need to program it call a locksmith they can do it
