AC issue

When I'm sitting still the ac blows hot. But when I'm going down the road its cold. Does any1 maybe have n idea or has had this issue b4 on wat cld b the issue?

azzuro 06-21-2010 09:43 PM

I've noticed a similar issue. When I'm cruising, AC is fine. Let off on the gas and AC blows hot. I've also noticed the AC blows hot under WOT. I'd guess the common issue is heat.

hit the power + seek UP button (right hand side up button) on the head unit. This will display youre AC temp. See if it alters at all. If it doesn't change, you probably have low freon levels and just enough to keep it cool when the compressor is being pushed harder by the engine. If it does change, you have an issue with your temp control unit.

jenifer 06-21-2010 10:45 PM

Okay awsome ill do this 1st thing 2mrw.

jenifer 06-22-2010 10:07 PM

Where has any1 went to get there ac charged in the 8?

zoom44 06-22-2010 10:14 PM

you will probably need to rest the ac amplifier.

zoom44 06-22-2010 10:16 PM

check this thread for instructions for the ac amplifier re-programming

Been there, survived. Worst case was after a shuttle launch in traffic.

Step one is to be sure that the electric fans are coming on You should be able to hear them. Low is kind of hard to hear, high is not a problem to hear from 20 feet away. If they do not come on, you are relying on the air being forced through the grill to cool the condenser.

You can pull and reseat the relays. They are in the fuse box under the hood. The big black things towards the front. They key says FAN 1, Fan 2 and Fan 3.

Try this. I am pulling together all the posts that helped me with this problem to post under something like "first year Noob lessons" or what I learned the first year. I can send you parts of that list to try next, but first step is to make sure you have fans.

AC? We don't need no steeekin' AC in a sportscar. I'd rather sweat than lose the power. ;)

As cited, if the airflow is ok, typically a recharge is required. Alas gone are the days of freon and ice cold AC. :(

04Green 06-23-2010 12:31 PM

you might be surprised.

Mine sucked when I started, but in 95 degree weather, I can sit at idle and get 49 degree air out of the dash with the fan on hi, once the car cools down. It took a little R134, pipe gasket around lines and radiator and grounding (more idle voltage, fans spin audibly faster). If I can figure out why the heater is heating the air up 6 degrees, I will get even colder. Car was uncomfortably cold coming home from work yesterday in 95 degree heat in Florida.

azzuro 06-23-2010 06:45 PM

I tried the "AC Temp" thing.
http://i652.photobucket.com/albums/u...6232010058.jpg

Is it missing a unit or is that a relative measure? It never varied from "0" and didn't blow hot air so I guess that's good. On hotter days, I'll have to check again.

Mazurfer 06-23-2010 06:52 PM

Just reset the amp for starters as Zoom said and provided a link for(ah....screw it, I added it below).
It might help and worth a try before everything else.
And for those complaining about no A/C under WOT, you know it cuts off the compressor then don't you?

1. Verify ignition switch is in OFF position.
2. Press and hold the front defrost and air intake selector buttons simultaneously.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC" position for 3 seconds. (Continue to hold the buttons down from step #3.)
4. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position for 3 seconds. (Continue to hold the buttons down from step #4.)
5. Successful programming will be confirmed by the rear defrost indicator light flashing 3 times. NOTE: If vehicle's battery dies or cables are removed, the programming will not be retained and must be performed again.

Now this is advertised as just making sure when the A/C is on that it sets to re-circulate, but there are those of us that swear it does much more.

jenifer 06-24-2010 05:25 PM

Hey azzuro I got 0 on mine also. What's up with that? Gee's I just want it fixed.

jenifer 06-24-2010 05:30 PM

Now what do u mean it does much more? Is this going to cause more problems if I reset this?

Mazurfer 06-24-2010 07:27 PM

If you meant the reset, then "No" it won't hurt a thing. I do it every single time I have disconnected the battery for any reason.
Sometimes shit just gets out of whack(communication wise) and this resets that along with setting to "recirc". Just try it, it's worth a shot.

And.....if you weren't taking to me or Zoom.........then "nevermind" ;)

This won't work for me, if I do this all I get is all the leds lit up on the display, it's like it's doing a self test for the display. Also the reprogramming of the a/c amplifer doesn't work either, I need help, it's seriously hot here guys 37C 98.6F today

travnett 07-13-2010 10:08 AM

I should add my car is a 2004 UK/European model

RX8PDX 07-13-2010 10:23 AM

The Power + Seek up does not show temp.

It shows the temp dial position. 0 is all the way cold. 16 is all the way hot.

If it changes without moving the dial, or gets locked at a value without moving the dial, then most likely the dial needs to be resoldered to the PCB behind it. Its a known issue.

When I press the power + seek up button I do not get what is shown in this picture. Instead I get a display full of red LEDs and the numbers for the time and temp on left and right showing all 8's. I need more advice guys. Cheers

On my car stereo panel I do not have a scan up button, what I have instead is 3 button's TA, PTY and AF. When I hold the power button and the TA button (your scan up button) I do not get A/C Temp instead I get FAN and Temp. When I turn the fan knob up I get an arrow going to the right and when i turn it down I get an arrow going to the left and if i leave it i just get a dash line beside the FAN. The same goes for the temp button. Does anyone else have this same configiration as me? BTW my car is a UK (Europe) 2004 model with fully automatic Air con.

See my post on this thread for the pics.

Some of the early 04's did have some differences in the AC system. Vin 112713+ shows an AC change for the compressor. Not sure if it's related to this diagnostic issue. On mine the reprogram trick does not work (the 3 lights don't flash when holding buttons down).

travnett 07-16-2010 01:00 PM

yeh the ac reprogramming doesnt work on mine either. my vin jmzse1736*****042 not sure if this tells anything
