ABS and traction control Help!!

my traction control and abs keep shutting off. I noticed its fine until the first time I do some hard to moderate braking. I then shuts off showing both the traction control and abs light. i am fi but the problem didn't occur until about 1,000 miles after the install. but i did put the mazsport cooling mod on and the problem started about 200 miles after that. idk if there is any correlation. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

The mazsport cooling mod is reversible , it would make sense to reverse the most recent change and see if the problem still occurs.

yeah ill buy a 90 for the radiator hose and see if taking it off fixes the problem.

Odd we just did the mazsport cooling mod on AJs 8 and he has no issues with the traction control and abs.
What fuse are turned up? maybe you installed it wrong and have the wrong fuse turned up.
Have you had your 8 up on jack stands and removed the wheels? check the ABS sensors by the wheels.
Try this; turn the wheel all the way to the right then all the way to the left and back to center. See if that resets it.

i checked all the sensors and they are all hooked up and making good connection.
is there anything with the the brakes that would cause this? because it only happens when i hit the brakes.

Check your battery connection and make sure they are clean and tight. And if you do decide to take out your mazsport cooling fan mod, just remove the relays and put back in the original relays and zip tie the mazsport relays and wire out of the way for now to see if the mazsport mod is the problem. So there would be no reason to buy a new hose

I changed out the two relays and disconnected the ground off the mazsport mod. and still have the problem. I am just lost on what the problem could be

i don know if this part of the problem but i realized my brake lights don't work. they turn on with the running lights but do not light up when the brakes are hit. however the brake pedal does work to cancel cruise control. is this a fuse problem or a servo problem.

Check the ABS fuse

shinka911 12-26-2009 10:26 AM

all the fuses are good.

how do i check if a abs senor or sensors is bad?

The ECU will see the malfunction or failure and the warning light will appear directly in front of your eyes in the guage pod... no need to actually check the sensor. But to determine which one's the problem.....

1. RESISTANCE CHECK: disconnect the sensor check with an ohnmeter for 0.79 - 2.2 kohms resistance

2. VOLTAGE PATTERN TEST: connect an oscillioscope (set to 1v/div (Y); 2ms/div (X), AC range), drive the car at 30km/h (18.6mph) and observe the voltage pattern. If there are any anomolies present (should be a nice sine curve and correct resistance),..... replace.

3. SENSOR VALUE OUTPUT TEST: check the shop manual for details.

shinka911 12-31-2009 12:31 AM

i did a resistance check and and i was getting around 4.4 to 4.7 ohms on the front abs sensors

Turns out the brake light switch on the pedal was sticking
just put a new one on all is good

Never considered this (no known brake light problem) but everything else sounds spot on. The wheel sensors and the master cylinder fluid pressure sensor tested good. I've even sent the ABS ECU off to a shop specializing in ABS repairs. They cut it open and didn't find any obvious issues.

I guess that it couldn't hurt to attempt this fix. It would be one more thing that I could eliminate from consideration.

What did the switch run you and where did you purchase it (local parts house or online)?
