2004 RX-8, where does this solenoid go?

I've searched but can't find an answer and alldata is no help. I've got a metal vacuum solenoid under the airbox that is plugged in to the electrical harness near the MAF sensor but both ports are connected to short lengths of vacuum hose and nothing else. Where should this go? It looks like an EGR solenoid but I can't find any info on it. It's not one of the main 3 solenoids under the UIM. Forgive me if it's a simple question, I'm a BMW guy and just trying to help a friend. I'll link to a picture since I can't get photo upload to work. Thank you.

Is that the actual picture, not this one(purge solenoid located under the UIM) below; also, is your friend's car showing a CEL?

That looks like it. I just used a picture that looked similar. I see the solenoid but the vacuum hoses are both loose, I don't know if there is a vacuum leak but I assume there is. I'll check alldata for purge solenoid. The evap system didn't even come to mind. Thank you. There is a check engine light but I haven't had a chance to check it. Originally it was a code for the ssv valve but that was because there was a 4 port manifold installed on his 6 port engine with 2 ports blocked off with sheet metal. I just replaced that mess with the proper manifold and new gaskets and I checked all 3 solenoids under the UIM and cleaned/tested the ssv valve and actuator. Car runs smoother but the light came back after 60 miles or so. He has the car so I need to check codes again.

Hose routing.

As far as the check engine light goes, check the hose routing on the the 3 solenoids on the back and make sure the right electrical plugs are in the right places. Very easy to mess up. Also that solenoid by the mass airflow sensor is for another shutter valve on a tube that's mounted under the front bumper, feeding air into the airbox. There is an extra valve there. It's only purpose is to quiet the intake noise at very high rpms. It can stay detached and unplugged even. No codes will be thrown. But on the driver's side (U.S.) of the intake manifold there is a little nipple that hose shouldblead to. As long as that nipple is covered to prevent a vacuum leak you should be good
