Having an issue with my Sat Nav hood. Its all fitted and installed. However the hood wont open. Only Close. any reason why this would happen?

Also i fixed the interference problems the USB car charger i have smelt like it was burning and after unplugging it the interference stopped.

i've been meaning to write this up as a proper how to, but haven't yet. there is info here and there if you search, but i took mine apart and i have a fix. i have pics, but i'll have to post em later

the way that Mazda choose to raise and lower the nav hood is overly elaborate yet easily escapeable. the navi screen assembly has a motor with a small gear train, that eventually drives a gear that interfaces with a big gear on the upper dash piece. there is a position sensor, but for some reason they decided to put it on the motor instead of the screen.

so the fix is to disconnect the screen from the upper dash part, cycle the motor so it gets to its proper position, and then re-index the screen and dash.

ok so to fix it, you need to pull the shifter plate, ash tray. the radio needs to be popped out*, but it doesn't need to come all the way out or be unplugged, the vents above the radio need to come out, and then there are two screws that hold the nav hood on.

once you have the upper dash piece/nav hood popped off the dash, you will see that the screen pivots on two "pins" that screw in to the dash hood. the gear it uses to pivot is on the left side, so you will unscrew the left side pivot, pull the pin out, and i like to manually tilt the screen up, and then pull the left side up a little, so the gears disengage. then you can push the open button, and it'll either open or close depending on where you are starting from. i cycle it a few times, then leave it open, put the screen back down, put the pin in, and try it.

it will probably take a couple of times before you get the gear in the right place, but once it is it'll work.

pics to follow

edit: i see yours is a little different, mine is an 04 USA model

I've seen a few people on here with the same problem.
As j9fd3s said, basically the gear drive is in the wrong posistion, and the sensor thinks your screen is already open and thats why it was only closing.
Just keep moving the gear drive around until you get it to go open and close properly.
