04 tranny problem

Hey. I have any 04 mazda rx8 with about 45k on it. about a week ago reverse started getting hard to go into and today its near impossible.. All i keep doing is grinding the gears. 1st gear grinds on the first try also.. I took it to the dealership today and they told me that the problem is internal and I needed a new transmission. They quoted me 5k. The guy i bought the car from told me that I had a 8 year 100k mile warranty. the dealership i went to said I didn't. Any advice on what to do?

Im thinking the pedal might be going.. check the fluid level and check for any leaks on the cyl... how does the clutch pedal feel? firm, or does it have some play in it? maybe air in the line?
changing out the fluids is a cheap thing to try =]

the fluid levels were good. The clutch petal feels the same.. it engages at the same spot. same hardness. I was thinking about changing the fluids but i don't think that will help.. it will not go into reverse at all, it goes n2 first after the 2nd try.. I had planed to take it to a shop 2maro. do you think a fluid change could really solve the problem?

Ok so I replaced the transmission with a salvage one. It was really smooth and still is, but now it grinds sometimes when shifting to 4th and 6th gear.. only when i'm accelerating quicker or at a higher rpm.. My fluid levels are good. Could it b the clutch petal or air in the line still?

sn: when i removed the first trans. it was metal all in the fluid, which means it was done..
