02 sensor
 

Ive recently bought an 04 Rx8 and the cat failed so i decided to DE-CAT it but after that the car occasionally suffers with power loss is this due to the 02 sensor and can i remove it completely with no issue to the car ?

There is a front and rear o2 sensor

Which one to you want to remove?

its the rear one but can they both be removed ?

No that is the Rear O2 sensor.

You can remove it if you like but it won't turn off the check engine light.
You'll also want to have something else to fill the void of where it was installed.


Caveat:
In the beginning no one believed these rear o2 sensors did anything other than measure how well the catalytic was operating.

There is some evidence that this may not entirely be true.
However so many of us are running catless with the Cobb AP I can't imagine its NOT a big deal.

I don't believe the rear o2 has any impact on the AFR's but meh ... we shall see.

My advice - don't remove it.

Your power loss is not likely due to this ...

thats the rear o2 sensor. i was wondering this too. if your catless and wanted a wideband could you remove it?

arent wideband sensors usually placed a bit further down the stream?

idk paimon. thats why i asked. i fugured it would be an easy solution if your running catless with a cobb. oh wait i almost forgot you have a s2. lol

Thanks very much, its a really intermitent prob i have, and usually it happens everytime straight after i give it a boot and get the revs up it last for ten or so minutes with bad power then after that it fades away.

On the S1 I don't see why you couldn't just unplug it.
I've not driven for a long time with my rear O2 unplugged but I have done it.
Don't think it makes a difference.

No not necessarily mine is about 2 feet ahead of my rear o2 sensor and maybe a foot and a half from my front.
IMO placement has most to do with how much latency you can tolerate in your wideband (at least for NA cars).
You don't want it do far down stream or close to exhaust connections to try and reduce outside oxygen contamination.


When is the last time you changed the coils, plugs, air filter, clean Maf, and ESS?

well where is the best spot on an fi car then?

Ive jus bought the car and its got full sevice history but i guess im gonna have to go through the usuals to eliminate the prob lol

IMO just after the turbocharger in the down pipe
