Xtool IOBD2 + Flat Battery
Hi all
I have recently purchased the IOBD2 Xtool diagnostic tool and it works very well. with my iphone. What I have noticed is that if left plugged into the car with the ignition off it will drain your battery flat within a few days. I left mine plugged in after a recent trip and thought nothing of it as I assumed power to the diagnostic port would switch off with the ignition. It would appear not. I came back to drive the car 4 days later and the car battery was flat. I originally suspected my Center console accessories socket as it was plugged into a dashcam, but there is no power present there when the ignition is switched off. I checked the IOBD2 and it was quite warm, so it must be on. So this is a quick update to anyone who has a IOBD2 or is thinking of getting one. It works well, but don't leave it plugged into the vehicle when you switch off the car. Its a shame really as it would be great if the device could be left plugged in. Hope this helps. Cheers |
sounds about right. OBD2 port has a constant +12V power source. Anything plugged in there needs to manage its own power. If you want a obd2 device that you can leave plugged in without worry, check out the OBDLinkMX.

It only works with bluetooth and I require a wifi connection.
not to worry, just have to unplug it when not in use. |
