When do you Change gears to save gas?

Every car is different and I want to see some RX-8 drivers opinions on what gears at what RPM saves the most gas. Let me know what you guys think. I commute 120 miles a day in my 8 and I think I have it down but opinions are always excepted.

Of course as we know saving gas and driving an RX-8 is an oxymoron, but if you must granny shift it, 3k is about right.

To save gas in any car you want to get to the highest gears, and preferably overdrive (6th), as quickly as possible. That doesn't mean to stomp on it but don't hang around in the lower gears any longer than you have to. Also, try to leave enough room between you and the car you're following so you're not on the brakes. Maintain your momentum as much as possible - you've already paid for it.

Unfortunately my best advice would be to get a higher mpg car for a long daily commute. The '8 was meant to be drivin hard, both because it's a sportscar and also to keep carbon in check.

... never! Ha, I think the above is correct; however, it is too much fun to wind it up as we all know. Besides, it is better for longevity of the engine.
