I have an 04 mt. I was checking out my clutch pedal and noticed a small red toggle switch that says on and off. I have searched every where and cant find anything about it. It is bunched up with all the wires that go to the fuse box and next to the cord that releases the hood i think. Is it stock? Is it supposed to be on or off? what does it do? help!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------seems like it goes to this module. i still have plenty of bump with it turned off because it has always been turned off. it still doesnt seem to do anything.

StealthTL 10-05-2011 12:09 PM

Not stock.

Maybe an alarm or possibly a time portal.

Atilla 10-05-2011 12:14 PM

Itz for teh nawzz in yo' trunk

RIWWP 10-05-2011 12:20 PM

It literally could be anything that interacts with anything in the car.

And I say this without sarcasm. That fuse box has all fuses for everything rearward of the firewall, and it would be a logical tapping point for any manual control over the on/off status of any of those. Anything forward of the firewall that needed a manual control could be run through the firewall there.

Some more logical possibilities:
- Fuel pump cut-off (anti-theft or anti-flood)
- Clutch interlock switch cut-off (anti-theft)
- All light cut-off
- Battery cut-off
- Audio / PS3 / PC power switch

From there the suggestions move from "possible" to "improbable but possible" It literally could be to an ignition source in your gas tank. It could even be the time portal Zoom mentions.

Granted, it could be wired wrong, so the time portal might not work, if that is indeed what the switch is for.

slvrmzdrx8 10-05-2011 12:30 PM

Show us some pics of this time portal activation system you got going on.

HEY, maybe we can finally figure out the age old question of "if your driving at the speed of light and switch your headlights on, what happens"

(Not to thread-jack) RIWWP - You drove to SS last year, was it totally worth it? Looks like im doing it this year from Colorado.

8ya 10-05-2011 12:32 PM

my car came with a sub and amp in the trunk, it looks professionally installed. the switch was off when i seen it i tried turning it off and on didnt seem to do anything. you guys havent herd of any mods that sound like that? i guess ill just leave it off.

Tamas 10-05-2011 12:33 PM

Don't mess with it.
It will initiate the self-destruct sequence. It was a Mazdaspeed-provided extra to thwart curious thieves.

You could follow the wires and see where it's wired into.

But, that might give the appearance of work :)

8ya 10-05-2011 12:38 PM

im in colorado springs maybe we can car pool! save on gas. ill take it to 100mph at the track and turn on the switch and see if anything happens. ill try and get some pics im supposed to be working right now?

That distinctly looks like you aren't sure if you are supposed to be working  Whether or not you actually are supposed to be is entirely up to you (or your boss, if you are at work at the moment :lol2:)

Step 1. Go 88 mph
Step 2. Flip the switch to "On" position
Step 3. Stop assassination of Abraham Lincoln and JFK
Step 4. Begin new world order
Step 5. Profit.

Be a WINNER.

While I agree it could be the switch for the time portal and I am known to be generally fairly stealthy- it wasn't me , man.

:suspect:

paimon.soror 10-05-2011 01:17 PM

lol. taking a serious guess here, but maybe it is a clutch switch bypass toggle? do you have a remote starter?

maskedferret 10-05-2011 01:29 PM

This thread is worthless without pics

from the Kardashian sex vid.

Is the amp self-switching (turns on and off by itself by detecting voltage in the audio signal wiring)?
Sometimes, professional installers splice in a switch between the amp and the amp fuse so you can manually switch off the amp.

That's my guess.

If everything in the car is working as it should, I'd just leave it and forget about it.
If you're really curious and want to test my hypothesis, keep the car parked, turn off the switch in question, turn the key to accessories position, and try playing a track with heavy bass. Check out your sub in the trunk and see if it's firing. Then try that with the switch on.

If the switch doesn't affect the sub, it's anyone's guess.

Dj-Trippwire 10-05-2011 02:08 PM

He read the manual guys.. He mustve missed page 14 3/4 where it says about the time portal.

But on a serious note.. pics and lets see where those wires go. Maybe it deactivates the AC and makes the car run faster... i got a funny story about that when i sold my integra.. I told buddy that a switch did that and he immediatly spent 3000 on a car i spent 800 on. HAH

Mate WHY?, would you read through the factory manual?..

There is no on-off small red toggle switch that says on and off installed by the factory anywhere in the car, particularly near the clutch pedal..

It IS obviously something the previous owner installed on the car?

^+1 on being an amp switch - it could be there to provide some assistance w/batt life.

honest suggestion:

Check your amp n' sub n' see if everything is still wired up and do as the above stated.

slvrmzdrx8 10-05-2011 02:20 PM

I would think amp and sub as well, but who the hell mounts a kill switch to an amp on the floor next to the clutch?:dunno:

Atilla 10-05-2011 02:31 PM

^clearly someone who was too lazy to flip a switch with his hand.
