Is there any actual evidence or cases of ethanol-related damage? I know there was a lot of theorizing floating around about corrosion and water separation, but I've yet to hear of actual cases...
I mean if it really was a problem, the gas stations themselves would be the first victim.

Mhm, in Bulgaria 95 is normal, we have 100, premium 105 I've seen. Let's say 95oct is around 1.20 euro, the 100 one is around 1.35 and the premium 1.5.. XD something like that

In the US we use AKI (anti-knock index) which is an average of RON (research octane number) and MON (motor octane number).
In most of Europe, RON is used.

I honestly couldn't tell any difference using Shell 91 and Chevron 94.
I doubt a stock 8 is even tuned for anything above 91.

You won't notice a difference between 93 and anything >93 if you aren't tuned for it. Odds are, you won't notice even if you are tuned for it unless you're force-feeding your car.

Anyway, back to the thread, location Greece, fuel is measured in RON method, unleaded. I would recommend to ppl living in Greece to avoid 100 RON BP, Shell or any other. Bad for aged injectors. I've been using RON 95 or 98 Shell V-Power fuel for the last two years on 2005 5mt euro spec 8. Smoother engine operation, better mileage with 98 V-Power. From selected gas stations though. Avoid gas stations that you don't know, there's a lot of fuel fraud going on especially now with all the lock down corona crisis, no one is checking them. Avoid non branded gas stations. Every Tuesday, there's a 5% discount on shell gas stations for 98.

Stock car no tune, 87 all the time. Never recorded a knock event even in Arizona summer doing long 3rd and 4th gear pulls to redline. There are others much more qualified than me ( in the rotary tuner industry) who have said this engine does not need premium, in stock or mostly stock form.

Would be interesting to see an 87 vs 91 AKI dyno. That would do all the convincing there ever needs to be.
