The manual says minimum 91.

10% Ethanol is nothing to worry about, and defo better than that 87 - leave that for old lawnmowers.....

I always run high test, 91-93 octane. If the manual says to run a minimum 91 do it. Cheap gas will do nothing but cause unwanted issues in these cars.

Is there any actual evidence or cases of ethanol-related damage? I know there was a lot of theorizing floating around about corrosion and water separation, but I've yet to hear of actual cases...

I mean if it really was a problem, the gas stations themselves would be the first victim.

You would be better with the E10 93 octane...although I ran mine stock on 87 and didn't have any issues with street driving

Mhm, in Bulgaria 95 is normal, we have 100, premium 105 I've seen. Let's say 95oct is around 1.20 euro, the 100 one is around 1.35 and the premium 1.5.. XD something like that

93 is pretty common here (eastern nc) but being a race county some places have 110 on tap!

He's referring to Bulgaria.

In the US we use AKI (anti-knock index) which is an average of RON (research octane number) and MON (motor octane number).
In most of Europe, RON is used.

Where are you getting 110 in the US?

You don't need it for a NA 8.... or even a turbo 8 unless you are running more than 10-15 lbs of boost.

I honestly couldn't tell any difference using Shell 91 and Chevron 94.

I doubt a stock 8 is even tuned for anything above 91.

Good to know.
Four Oaks, NC: There’s a NAPA with 110 pump out front
Benson, NC: Local drag strip gas station 110 pump off to the side.

You won't notice a difference between 93 and anything >93 if you aren't tuned for it. Odds are, you won't notice even if you are tuned for it unless you're force-feeding your car.

you being a greek cypriot has nothing to do with this though. (???)

Anyway, back to the thread, location Greece, fuel is measured in RON method, unleaded. I would recommend to ppl living in Greece to avoid 100 RON BP, Shell or any other. Bad for aged injectors. I've been using RON 95 or 98 Shell V-Power fuel for the last two years on 2005 5mt euro spec 8. Smoother engine operation, better mileage with 98 V-Power. From selected gas stations though. Avoid gas stations that you don't know, there's a lot of fuel fraud going on especially now with all the lock down corona crisis, no one is checking them. Avoid non branded gas stations. Every Tuesday, there's a 5% discount on shell gas stations for 98.

On a different note, I wish a fast recovery to Paul. And to all of you a happy new year. Be well everybody.

Stock car no tune, 87 all the time. Never recorded a knock event even in Arizona summer doing long 3rd and 4th gear pulls to redline. There are others much more qualified than me ( in the rotary tuner industry) who have said this engine does not need premium, in stock or mostly stock form.

Knock sensors on the Renesis do effectively nothing, BTW. Don't count on them to save you from bad gas.

An untuned car is probably running very rich under load so maybe you 'get away with it' . Still bad advice IMO ...you need 91 or better ...particularly if engine is tuned for best power.

Would be interesting to see an 87 vs 91 AKI dyno. That would do all the convincing there ever needs to be.
