What do you guys think? (Flashing CEL)
So I have a 2005 Mazda RX8 automatic
BHR Ignition kit Upgraded 2.0kw starter KM on body 104,000 on new engine: 25,000 Exoticspeed catback Whenever the car has just been started from cold (overnight) and I start driving if I go up to 8500-9000rpm I hear some popping sounds from the exhaust and the cel starts to flash and goes away but once the engine is fully warmed and I again go up to 9000rpm the cel doesn't come back on. Could this be some sort of sensor problem? Mod Edit: I think you should keep in mind thread titling rules: https://www.rx8club.com/faq.php?faq=...q_user_conduct 14. Please include a descriptive subject for your thread. People shouldn't have to open the thread to find out what the topic is! -RIWWP |
A flashing CEL is ALWAYS a misfire. Always always always always always always always always

Misfire. Pull the code and see if you can narrow it down to the front or rear rotor.

you would do well to search/google a topic before posting another new thread on a very old and well documented subject; not flaming or bashing, just a friendly recommendation that serves the interests of both yourself and other members :)

In addition to the comments above, which are very valid, what are you doing revving up to 8000 on a cold engine? are you trying to kill it?
|
Replace coils, plugs, wires

the sauce is weak, but the stench is overwhelming ... maybe you should have instead asked how he's hitting 9000 rpm in a 2005 4-port auto . |
Why would you rev a cold engine to 9k ?
|
He says started from cold, as in not a warm start. He never said he is revving it cold.
Try removing the BHR ignition and put your OEM coils back on. I remember a post a few months ago where someone had this same issue and putting OEM coils back on solved it. |
New wires and plugs fixed my high rpm misfire .... I'd work backwards as it is very unlikely the truck coils are root cause.
|
any coil can fail, even the ones supposedly covered in pixie dust
it could be any number of things though, which is why a proper diagnosis is needed rather than dropping hundreds of dollars guessing and then justifying it with excuses on why all new components is always best |
