im thinking about deleting my cat and install an agency power cat mid pipe and was wondering what are the cons of deleting the cat? will it affect the apex seals? will it shorten the engines life?

The smell in the cabin is horrible.

IT is illegeal in all 50 states per smog regulations.

If car came from factory with CAT, car must be equipped with CAT at all times.

Example: Your state may not have a seat belt law, but if the car was manufactured with a seat bealt, it must be in the car and in good working condition at all times.

thanks for the responses guys and one last thing..i heard that if you de-cat and replace it with a mid pipe like the agency power catback it will start shooting flames due to the engine running rich all the time?

Incorrect.

If anything, removing the cat will make it run slightly leaner I believe. I may be wrong on that specific point, but the flames aren't because you run rich. The flames are from the simple fact that our engine is inefficient, and even with everything working perfectly, when you let off the throttle there is at least 1 rotor face that is after the fuel injection point, but before the spark point, so that fuel gets dumped into the exhaust. This is dealt with by your cat if you have one. Without a cat, this mixture travels through the exhaust. It's very hot, so you have the heat and the fuel, the exhaust gasses present keeps it from having the 3rd point needed: air. When the mixture gets to where it can find air, such as out of the tips, all 3 points needed for fire now exist, and the mixture lights off.

Your tune certainly CAN affect this drastically, more flame or less flame.

i just gutted mine. no cel after around 300 miles. the smell isnt terrible. maybe the guy before me had it tuned. i cant say for sure. i was having issues with my cat and plan on getting a midpipe but until then i had to do something. oh and as for flames i cant say if it will or wont as im not behind the car but in it driving. i havent had a friend behind me yet..

stock exaust and a gutted cat will get you very small flame a little spark if you will. midpipes more noticable. just get to 9k hold it there for 3 sec then double clutch to next gear guarenteed fire. the one thing you can also count on tho is a ticket and possibly an impound

The only time its EVER an issue is when stopped at a light with the windows down. Even then its not as bad as some people are saying.. then again its subjective.

You also got to be cautious around the piggies. Depending on where you live. My local cops, KPD would impound my car if they knew I was catless while JPPD/LPPD would probably ask me to shoot another flame so they can take a pic. The brake tag station doesn't seem to mind here, and there is no way to hide you don't have a cat since you have to pull into a garage and leave it running.

The smell is bad and can make you feel sick at times. How bad it smells seems to vary car to car. My 8's exhaust really stinks compared to Hesselrodes 8,and we are both using a gutted oem mid pipe.

But there is some info in there.


I wasn't really serious though. Just pointing out that anyone that consumes a wide range of petroleum products just for fun really doesn't have much of a platform to stand on regarding environmental impact of a single facet of emissions.
