Weird scraping noise while driving.

So long story short, I got the engine replaced about a year and a half ago took 6mo and 2 engines for the dealer to get it right (well sorta right). I was so disgusted with the RX8 I've only put 4k miles on it since the first time it went to the dealer in Aug of 2013. The second engine they put in I replaced the clutch cause they said that's what it was. Guess what same sound that didn't happen before I took it in. They said it was coming from the tranny and that it would cost me to rip it back apart and would be charged if they found nothing wrong. The car drives fine just an annoying scraping sound which actually scared off buyers when I went to sell it.

Anyway after the first engine was put in there was always that noise, it comes and goes but always happens. If driving down the highway when you hit bumps you can here it come and go. I thought it may have been the heat shields but they appear to be fine. Also during hard acceleration the sound stops so it seems like something is rubbing grinding somewhere but I can't find it.

You can't hear it outside the car at all only in the cabin. I thought maybe something was hitting the floorboard or something because you can feel a slight vibration under the seat when it's happening.

I took it to the dealer so many times I got sick of it and locked her up in the garage. Only has 47k miles on it.

Here is a video, you can really hear it around 35-40s mark. It's like a whine/scrape at the same time. I'd think it was normal if it happened all the time but it doesn't hit a bump it goes away for a second.

24s is another good spot where you can hear the sound.

Oh also, it doesn't have the sound when I throw the rear end on jack stands and give it hell. It's only under load.

Loose engine mounts?

Are all nuts on the so called "power plant frame" fastened properly?

Maybe the exhaust hitting the tunnel cross members?

I've also found that a broken or improperly installed rubber lining around the shifter can allow plenty of gearbox noises to get into the cabin - which sounds rather scary.

Happy hunting!

That's the inside of the CAT or the heat shield around the CAT
