Wanted: DIY for Brake Rotors & Pads
I'm going to be doing Rotors and Pads tomorrow, I have the basic concept as I've done it on other cars, just want to see if anyone has a DIY to make it easier to follow.
I tried checking this link http://www.hi-impact.org/ryang/modify/modify.html but it doesn't work for me :( |
Anyone know of a working link?
|
I see you may have done search in the DIY section itself? Robin Yangs stuff got moved onto a different server. It is now at http://69.108.208.137/ryang/modify/modify.html It's actually a little weak, so since I'm stuck at home today, I'll see if I can find a better one.
Other than that I did find more in the DIY section.............although I did go look at the actual threads. This link is to the DIY section and you can look alphabetically under brakes in the 2nd post, where I see at least two of them. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-section-category-alphabetically-101998/ |

For the pads it's really simple, take the wheel off(duh), take the bottom bolt off the calipers and flip it up pull pads out and put new ones in. Not sure about rotors.
|
It's a good idea to resurface the rotor when installing new pads. There are two bolts (I believe they're both either 16mm or 14mm) on the back. Remove both of them and the whole brake caliper will come off, remove the alignment screws on the rotor itself (you don't need to put the screws back, they're there for manufacturing purposes) and then pull off the rotor. It's going to be hard to pull off the rotor because of heat and rust so get a rag and hammer the top of the rotor and it'll come right off.
|
You don't need to pull them off. Just sand them a little bit on both sides then bed them in.
You can't turn rotors on the RX8. They are too thin from the factory. Besides Renesis SE3p owns a Camary, so what does he know. |

They need to be turned clockwise in. It takes many turns to get them all of the way in. It doesn't seem like they
are going in because it is so slow, but be patient, you will see them going in slowly! https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-how-change-your-rear-brake-pads-172382/ |
