vents in rx8 blow a lot of air even when off?
 

the vents in my 2004 rx8 blow air even when they are suppose to be off. i dont know if this is normal for rx8s or if there is something wrong? :wallbash:

Do you have the vents set for fresh outside air or recirculate?

i have tried it on both, and i have never had a car blow this much air on the fresh air setting

does the amount of air change if its set to recirc? are you sure the fan knob is "off" and not actually on a bit with the knob stripped making it "read" as off?

sounds like your knobs are screwed, friends m5 was forever locked on Snowflake mode.

Can you turn your fans up? can you turn your AC/Heat on/off?

I'm just assuming your not in outside air driving 100mph when you test this...?

So is this just something thats normal for the car? When I cruise at highway speeds, the air blows as if I have it set to 1. While driving around town I can feel a soft breeze if I have it off as well. If I switch it to recirculate the pressure lessens a little.
Any ideas or is this normal?

It's normal for any properly designed car to be pulling in air from the outside with the fan off and the mode set to fresh air instead of recirculated air.

You have the switch set to pulling in air from the outside, and the intake point for that air is in a high pressure zone outside, so you get air "forced" through the system. If you were to tap the button to change it to recirculated air instead of fresh air, the pickup point would close and that air flow would stop.

Since yours doesn't stop completely, it would imply that the 'mode door' behind the HVAC system that closes isn't closing the whole way.

When you say mode door do you mean blend door?

Sorry for not understanding, never really learned much about cars.

The names are often swapped, but technically the blend door is what mixes hot and cold air to get whatever temp you have it set to, the mode door is the one that flips between recirc and fresh.

Blend door actuator is fubar. Car won't cycle to recirc instead of fresh air.

Ok well for some reason it's working now, turning it to recirculate not stops the air. I'm going to double check to make sure it's working.
