Valvoline SynPower 10W-30
I did a search on synthetic oil for the RX-8 and actually went through a dozen or so pages in that dino vs. synthetic thread. After all the reading, I'm still clueless.
I always go to a local Valvoline Instant Oil Change joint for all oil changes on my former Eclipse GS-T. I used Durablend on that car. My 2 week-old RX-8 just turned 9,000 miles and I want to get an oil change now. This will be the first oil change under my ownership. I just want to know whether there's anyone else on this board that uses the same oil for his/her 8. I went to Valvoline.com and the website recommended SynPower. So, should I go ahead and get SynPower? Or should I stick with dino oil? How about the Durablend? How often should I change the oil if I decide to go with SynPower? I used to stretch the mileage out to 4,500-5,000 on my Eclipse. It was still running strong, with no problems whatsoever, at 83,500 miles when I traded it in. Thanks in advance for all answers, advice. No flames, please, as I did a search before posting this newbie question.:) |
One more question: Can I use SynPower year-round? I'm from MA.

it doesnt really matter, if the *brand name here* works for you, then just use it.
I would prefer 5w30 when cold, you're in MA, about the same weather as NYC. for summer, 10w30 is ok. |
Jim Downing's rotary race cars all ran Valvoline Synthetic. Go ahead and use it.

Thanks nycgps & rotarygod.
