My TPMS light will start flashing after about a 1/2 hour of driving. No beeping, only flashing light. If I turn off the car and start it again, the light will go away for another 1/2 hour.

Some other info:

I have Axis Hiro rims. They have been on for about 18 months.
All tires are at 32psi
This has been going on for about two months.

I'm afraid the stealer will blame it on my rims even though i'm sure thats not the reason.

Any thoughts?

 

Are the hiros TPMS ready? If they are the dealer shouldn't be able to void the warranty on that. I had the flashing problem 3 times and it ended up to be bad sensors. Had them swapped out from the dealer. Head to your dealer and they will run tests.

 

What do you mean by TPMS ready?

 

The same thing happens to me. When I brought it up to them they said it's because i have aftermarket wheels. So they basiclly mean deal with it. Even though thats what were on the car when I bought it.

 

I'm assuming you have TPMS sensors in your aftermarket rims? When the TPMS light flashes like that, it means that 1 or more sensors aren't communicating with your car.

 

I would assume he doesn't, and that makes a lot more sense.

I got new wheels recently and did not install the TPMS sensors, and that is exactly what my car did for a few days. Now the light is permanently on.

I do have the sensors in my aftermarket wheels. They've worked fine for over a year. What should I do?

 

go to the dealership and tell them one of your sensors has gone bad. Be prepared for the "your aftermarket rims messed it up" defense.
Make sure you have something showing them that your wheels were in fact designed to take the TPMS.

I have the same thing happening on my car, and I am on OEM rims. The dealer changed the supposely bad sensor twice, but no effect. It started when they installed the last set of tires on the car 1 year ago. It kicks in at about 20 miles - since my home/work commute is 15 miles, I don't see it too often... annoying, nevertheless, and it is strange that the dealer cannot fix it.
