Torque - auto CEL clearing
I've been using a Torque app with my smartphone for sometime now and think the software is really great.
I have it on good authority that they will be allowing the automatic clearing of the cel on startup (Masking of sorts) within the next two releases fingers crossed So with a bluetooth obdII reader no more check engine light for those of us that are running no cat or modified ignition etc. As soon as it's released I'll post it Cheers |
Off topic, but does anyone know the deal with wofs and de-cating? Thinking about ridding mine but was told there was a change around 2010.
|
Wofs?
This would be a good idea if you could set what cels you wanted auto deleted specifically, and it left the rest of them alone. Hopefully that is the way they do it. |
Is this the OBDii you got?

is this the scanner you got ? any idea if it plugs into 1999 Rx7 ? |
I got mine via deale extreme - its a clone of the elm 327 chip

Torque have now released the enhancement - Tested it last nite - Within two minutes of startup the cel just turns off without having to do anything. No more annoying cel telling me that I have an issue with my cat - Perfect !

Yip go to speech/alarms - Check the Periodically scan for faults and then check automatically clear faults - What it does is leave a copy of the faults it cleared in the Check fault codes log
Enjoy a CEL free day - Just remember it takes about a minute from connection |
PM me if anyone is interested in a Kiwi Bluetooth OBDII adapter that works beautifully with Torque. I have an AccessPort so I don't need Torque + Kiwi adapter anymore.
|
^ Do you have any other cars? I got an AP, and didn't need the bluetooth dongle for my 8 any more, but still plenty of use from my other 2 cars.
There are also quite a few things that the AP can't do that Torque can. |

sorry for the thread revival, I'm looking at purchasing this for clearing my CEL when i remove my cat. Just wondering if the CEL will still come up if there is another issue with the vehicle? I am completely unfamiliar with this gear so hoping someone can give me a heads up. Cheers!

The check engine light will still turn on when ever you have an issue. But torque will automatically turn the light off after a minute or so.
I was running the torque program before I purchased my Cobb for the same reasons as you. I had an issue with one of my coils for a couple days and the check engine light Would flash to let me know there was a problem. The torque program will also verbally warn you when a code pops up. It is kind of cool. The program would also give me an auction warning when my car was cold if I was driving to aggressively. Torque has a ton of neat features, and is well worth the couple bucks. |
sounds good, cheers man.

I have scantool obd2 link bluetooth hooked up to the app OBDLink. I have torque but haven't messed around with it.
I have a power steering issue. can read about my issue here: https://www.rx8club.com/trouble-shoo...r-help-243759/ Basically Im asking is there anyway to see other types of codes: the little ones that show like out of fluid or power steering issue, or low oil. Where do these show or if you have ever come across these within your searching & experience with the app. |
Is it clearing or blocking the CEL code (not the same)?
|
Clears the CEL (Torque AP)
|
Periodically checks for CELs and then clears it through a normal clear command. Resets the OBD2 readiness when it does so. Does not do anything that can be exploited for passing an OBD2 emission check unless the state does not require that systems be 'ready'.
|
thanks for clarifying, for those who may not understand clearly this will not allow you to pass an OBD2 emissions test procedure

The AP doesn't do automatic clearing, and automatic clearing will not enable you to pass emissions testing anyway.
The AP DOES allow you to prevent the CEL from ever being thrown in the first place, which CAN help you pass emissions testing (depending on regulations and such) |

^ Not always true. I had the light come on plenty and it would take time for the light to fade. This is especially true if the CEL conditions are checked on started, such as the issue I had. Torque takes some time to check after connecting, and only checks periodically.
