Thread locker or not on flywheel nut and front lockbolt?
I see a few threads here and there talking about using loctite on both the flywheel nut and the front pulley lockbolt. But the engine workshop manual makes no mention of thread locker on those. It does mention silicon sealant on the contact surfaces of both, though, but I don't see anyone talking about that.
Maybe I'm missing something. Is it generally considered best practice to use loctite in addition to the sealant mentioned in the manual? Especially for the front lockbolt, I'm leaning against using loctite, since the manual says to apply oil to the threads. And if loctite, which is the best to use? I see some people saying red, and some say blue. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...081376c40b.png https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...a5d445b549.png |
It's just extra insurance. If you don't have a wrench that goes up to the 350ft pounds, then a little loctite can't hurt.

Thanks a bunch.
