Are there better apex seals than oem?

are there apex seals that are more durable trhan the original oem ones?

risky business 02-14-2009 10:44 PM

i dont see why you couldn't put on 10mm seals like you could with old 7's..... but that involves taking your engine apart and doing other things as well.... believe me, its expensive.

JaiDaJoker 02-14-2009 10:52 PM

ok thx

zoom44 02-14-2009 10:52 PM

yes joker

JaiDaJoker 02-14-2009 11:00 PM

how expensive would it be to get apex seals that are more durable installed?

Well, you're looking at around $400-2000 for the apex seals themselves plus whatever labor would cost on removing, tearing apart, rebuild, and reinstall the motor. Probably close to $2500.

JaiDaJoker 02-14-2009 11:13 PM

i heard that if you go FI that it would be wise to get more durable apex seals
thatz why i'm askin

swoope 02-14-2009 11:15 PM

do you know what size seals you have or compresson that is involeved?

if you dont know those answers, you are wasting your posts, and my and many peoples time..

beers

JaiDaJoker 02-14-2009 11:25 PM

no sorry i wasnt here to waste people time
and no i don't know what size i have
how could i check the size of the seals

I8U 02-14-2009 11:30 PM

Not to be rude, but since it seems you have little knowledge on the workings of a rotary I suggest you do some research on the engine. There are some really great reads out there, you just have to look.

nycgps 02-15-2009 01:33 AM

Dude, Seriously. Go Study your engine before you start your next question.

Easy_E1 02-15-2009 01:44 AM

The stock apex seals can handle 14 + pounds of boost. What are you planning on doing?

neit_jnf 02-16-2009 09:22 PM

NRS Ceramic apex and corner seals

The guy asked a simple question that was answered simply by risky business and zoom44. Then you add in your Mr. 2-finger typist unnecessary curmudgeon banter. And then all these other "jump on the bandwagon automatically" people automatically jump on the bandwagon. The problem is it's a really stupid bandwagon they jumped on.

Can you leave the guy alone? Can you leave all of us alone? Can you leave? Can you do that for us?

More "durable"? In a word - no.
Now, if you had asked about "knock tolerant" or something like that, the answer might be more complicated.

I looked into this when I was getting my engine rebuilt.

You can find harder seals, but harder seals cause wear on the housings.

Ceramic seals seem like the best option, low wear, last forever. But they can be easier to damage than the oem ones if your tuning isn't right. They're also about $2000 a set.

In the end I went with oems. Everything else was a compromise in some way or another.

its funny that those little pieces cost almost 1/2 as much as a new engine.

mysql 02-17-2009 12:02 PM

i dropped $3,000 on new parts for rebuilding my engine.

buying new stuff always costs $$ .... I could have saved a lot by just not getting new housings since they're $650 each.

nycgps 02-17-2009 12:04 PM

I thought a "brand new" engine cost something like 5-6 K ?

Well, 3K + God CRH u get almost brand new engine, thats good I guess.
