I use to regularly add a bottle of "Chevron PRO-GARD Fuel Injection Cleaner" to other cars I've owned, three or four times a year, usually right before an oil change. Is Techron bad for the Renesis, though?

Also, there are other Techrons I'm wondering about:
• Techron Concentrate Plus FUEL SYSTEM Cleaner
• Techron PRO-GARD Clean-Up Engine Deposit Remover

Would either of these be better than PRO-GARD Fuel Injection Cleaner? Or should I just NOT bother with any of them?

I do it every couple thousand miles now. because I had a SSV problems before, I put some Prestone Complete System Cleaner(or something, forgot the exact name). Floor it back and fourth between the 6-7 K RPM (SSV problem) is

After 1/2 Tank, no more problems.

I wouldnt do it *too* often tho, maybe every 7-8 thousand miles.

 

Fuel cleaners are VERY important for the rotary - more so than others due to high carbon buildup.

Techron is a good "one-time" cleaner, with "Concentrate" being the best as "Pro-Guard" is a cheaper, less strong, version. Use Techron (or other one-time cleaners) right before oil change as all of the one-time cleaners can cause some oil breakdown and increased wear when in use - good to change out oil afterwards (or most of it in the case of the 8). BG44k is a better one-time cleaner if you want to consider that as well.

The best solution IMHO is Lube Control FP60 as it is designed to be used in every tank without any adverse engine wear effects - provides great cleaners, lubricates tank/oil pump/injectors, provides additional apex and side seal lubrication, and acts as a fuel stabilizer.

FP60 has worked wonders in every vehicle I have used it in, including my 8. Quite a few others on this forum use FP60 as well. While I just use FP60 alone (4oz per 12 gallon refill), others also mix with 2-cycle oil ("premix") to get even better apex and side seal lubrication (3oz FP60 and 2oz 2-cycle per 12 gallon refill is a pretty good ratio).

Good timing! I just added in the Techron fuel injector cleaner with the Shell V-Power fuel (91 octane) and plan to drive it like I stole it ^_^ I'm thinking every 10K miles, add this with the premium fuel will help keep the carbs down!

Yes - but would still use FP60 as it is a much better cleaner than you will ever get from the pump. That said, using a better gas always helps - here is some more data.


Chevron/Texaco and Shell are considered two of the best "cleaning" gasolines you can buy. Both are "Top Tier Gasolines". Some other brands may be good as well, but have not gone through the top-tier certification.

Good information, Jax. I usually go with Shell V-Power (93 Octane).

 

I personally stick with Shell VPower (93 Octane out here in MD) and use BG 44k every other oil change. I also use BP / Amoco as my backup fuel when I am in a crunch because of them being so highly rated as a "Clean" fuel.

 

I just got through with a couple tanks of Techron concentrate along with Chevron gas and I couldn't be happier. I've learned my lesson. I have 68k miles on my car and had been buying gas at Sam's because is was both cheaper and right on the interstate I pass every day. Last year my car got slower and slower and slower until I had a real problem on my hands in January. I was really worried I was about to have to pop for a new engine. I was stunned how fast the Techron worked. I'm never going back to bad gas and will be treating my car to cleaner often.
