Tech Highlights CD

I know the tech highlights cd has been out for a while now, but I had a hard time trying to find it, so I decided I would host it for a while.

Hey thanks for hosting it, if you need help I can setup a torrent for the file as well tomorrow.

Glyphon 04-04-2005 11:44 PM

i'll 2nd the thanks for the hosting. and btw, thats a really slick interface you've designed.

Rotary Rasp 04-05-2005 12:24 AM

I'm downloading it now, what's in the zip file?

SAFD1450 04-05-2005 03:00 AM

It has a little info about the RX-8. Battousai if you can set up a torrent that would be great.

Rotary Rasp 04-05-2005 10:21 AM

That's awesome. I didn't know that you can adjust the parking brake from the center console...that's what the stupid tab was there for...lol

SAFD1450 04-05-2005 05:11 PM

How fast was the Download? I was just wondering if the file was working correctly.

Glyphon 04-05-2005 05:29 PM

i started it last night before i went to sleep, and it was done when i woke up this morning...so, i don't know how long it took. but i mounted the iso before i came into work this morning, and it mounted and the file i tested played.

Actually not too bad considering the file size. With a 1.5mbps DSL line it took about 54 minutes. Great video and thanks for making it available!!

Rotary Rasp 04-05-2005 07:28 PM

With my DSL it took 22 minutes. :D

I averaged 310KB/sec

4 Mb DSL blows the socks off of cable!

Ok its setup now:

http://199.243.126.73:6969/

its the only torrent on there.

its capped at 150KB/s (1200Kbps)

I'll leave it up until demand goes away for the file.

EDIT: The download was fine for me too, I think I was getting about 400-500KB/s from your site, that machine was on a dedicated 5 mbit up and down.

SAFD1450 04-05-2005 09:47 PM

Great. Im glad people are enjoying it. I hope to see more people d/loading it. I think the vid has a lot of usefully info. Thanks for the support.

fray 04-06-2005 10:24 AM

I downloaded it last night. But the (zip/iso) file I got doesn't seem to work for me.

Anyone know what type of filesystem it's supposed to be? (I've tried to mount it in both Linux and MacOS without any success.....)

Rotary Rasp 04-06-2005 10:56 AM

It has to be burned onto a CD.

fray 04-06-2005 11:04 AM

I did that and none of my machine would rear it Windows XP SP2, MacOS X or Linux.

They all claim the CD does not contain a filesystem that is readable.

(I'm redownloading to try again.. but I don't suspect it will help...)

The ISO file is a CD image and must be written to a CD using the proper settings in your burning software. For example, in Easy CD Creator, under the file option you would use: "Record CD from CD Image...". There should be a similar option in the software you are using if not ECDC.

fray 04-06-2005 02:56 PM

Yup.. I did that twice.. (both with the original download and the subsequent one.)

Either the file is corrupt (which I actually doubt), or the image is in a format these programs are not understanding.

(FYI I am using MacOS X's Disk Utility to burn the raw image.)

Hmmmm. In ECDC on a Windows computer there are two filename extensions of which ISO is one. If you know someone with a Windows computer and ECDC, see if they can burn a working CD of the video using the ISO option. See my PM.

Please don't take it off the site until I get a chance to download it, is that the info DVD people were getting in the mail??? Did you modifiy it to fit on a CD? Can a DVD player play it (mine can play video CD's)?

Thank you very much for making it available!!!

Nubo 04-07-2005 02:33 PM

Yeah, I can't get it to work with OSX either. Should be able to mount it as a CD image, but I'm also getting a warning that there's no readable file system. Can't burn it if I can't mount it.

What kind of files are actually supposed to be on the CD?

Battousai 04-07-2005 02:40 PM

rx8wannahave: I don't think this is the same as that owners DVD, this is more like a tutorial for technicians on some aspects of the car: engine, body, electronics, etc.

There is even a quiz and exam on the CD.

I think someone sent that customer DVD to Taka in Australia, don't know if he has it ripped and posted to his site yet, hope so :D

Anyway I will have this one up for you even if SAFD1450 has to take it down :D

I just used daemon tools to mount the image and had no issues with it. Not sure about Macs though, I use real computers (just kidding :p )

Glyphon 04-07-2005 02:46 PM

i used toast (5.21) to burn it to cd. worked great...in my windows machine.

you won't be able to use it as it was designed on anything but a windows machine, because it has an .exe frontend (designed in director?) that autoloads when you through the cd in.

but you can still get all the valueble info off of it, because all the videos are on the root directory of the cd as .mov files.

i'm sure there is some free program out there to use instead of toast, but i haven't bothered to look since i have toast.

and to answer a different question, no, it won't work in a standalone dvd player...at least i didn't notice the file structure that would allow that kind of operation when i was playing around with it...gotta use it on the computer.

see if this helps...
http://www.versiontracker.com/php/se...t%5B%5D=macosx

if that link doesn't work, go to versiontracker.com, make sure you are in the mac os x section, and search 'image mount'.

The downloaded file is a ZIP file which contains a ISO (CD image) file. The Zipped ISO file must be extracted and then burned to a CD as a CD Image. Once the ISO file is written to a CD, there are many separate files contained on the written CD. The primary file is RX8.EXE which is executed and which serves as an interface to coordinate the running of the various video segments.

SAFD1450 04-07-2005 04:53 PM

Well Guys I am still only at 1% of my bandwidth qouta so the file will be staying until its not needed anymore. Sorry about the issues with the macs, but as mentioned before I believe this cd was made for Windows only.

rx8wannahave 04-07-2005 06:18 PM

Download in progress....tick...tick...tick, it should be done in 23min
