Suspension coil snapped... what needs to be replaced?
Hi guys...
I was driving home and suddenly ... a small part of the rear driverside suspension coil snapped off (about half a turn). Obviously I need to replace it... Just wondering what I need to replace. Can I just replace the spring, or do I need to replace the whole coilover? on both sides? It doesn't seem to have made a big impact: the rear driverside is sitting a couple inches low and the front passengerside is a few inches high... I only drove a few hundred meters after it broke... what kind of complications should I look for? and what would cause such a failure? Thanks |
Its never recommended to replace only 1, if you have to replace 1 you need to replace all 4.
Time to start looking for a new set of coilovers. |

you could replace just the one spring, but you need to find out why it broke, and then see if the others are having the same problem.
i'd suspect rust, but that's just cause you're up in canada |

replacing all 4 seems like such a waste... and expensive... :( well... "welcome to owning a car" I suppose :p |
should be able to find a set of stock coils here for cheap... or just spend a little money and get something slightly firmer like RB. Revive a little life back into an older car and your experience will be much better.
