Success Story - P0704 / no cruise control / started fine

I figured I'd share this tidbit just because when I searched "P0704" I didn't find anything relevant.

So anyway, I noticed my cruise control stopped working a few days after I installed my stereo. My first thought was that the steering wheel radio controls might be on the same circuit as the cruise control and when I installed my SWI-PS that might have made it stop working. Then I thought I might have damaged a wire when I was underneath the driver's side dash rooting around, running my speaker wires (I was really going to town down there). I figured the damage was done and I rarely use control anyway so I put it off.

Well then yesterday my CEL came on and I thought bad thoughts and cursed a bunch. I went to autozone, bought a code scanner, looked it up, and got P0704 (Clutch Switch Input Circuit Malfunction. The light came on in my head, I put 2 and 2 together, and I went back under the dash. BAM, I found it. Somehow one of the clutch switches came undone from the mounting bracket. No permanent damage done. I mounted it back up and everything's A-OK now.

Anyone have a pic of these 2 swtiches ? MY CEL came on last night with code P0704. I got a new clutch pedal installed by my local dealer for free because of a recall that was issued in October....I'm guessing they screwed something up or left the switches loose ?

There are pics somewhere on this site as I have seen them. Try doing some searches, but you really don't need pics.

The switch at the bottom of the clutch travel and has the black body/white plunger is the starter interlock safety switch.
The clutch switch that disables cruise(unrelated one), is at the top of the clutch travel with a red body/black plunger, they are both adjustable.

I will also say that the lower switch(safety switch) has been known to stick in and the plunger might need to be pulled out, but this doesn't sound like your issue from your post. Just verify that one didn't come loose!

Ok so i called the dealer to see if they could take a look at it since they put in the new clutch pedal assembly...and the service guy is over here tellng me that the new clutch pedal has nothing to do wwith the P0704 code im getting and i need to bring it in for a diagnosis ($135). Smells like bullshit to me. Im going to try looking at the pedal area for the 2 switches this weekend and chck out those plungers. Is there anything else that could cause this CEL tho ? I highly doubt it was the RB revi intake i installed the day before the CEL came on
