Stock Keyless Entry Fob Doesn't work
Ok, I've done some searching on this and I'm only finding threads about upgrading to the switchblade key fob.
So I get up this morning and my 2004 stock key less entry fob doesn't seem to open the car. I figure its the battery, so I swapped a new one into the unit. Still no workie. My other fob also appears to have a dead battery, so I swapped it out too. No luck on getting that unit to open the car either. Do you have to reprogram after you simply swap a battery? Thanks guys |
Hi Brillo.
That sucks. As far as similar problems, I found this post by dannobre:

I think it is a common problem..at least 2-3 of our club members have dead ones as well Good luck. |
Nothing much..it was cheaper to get a couple from e-bay and re-program those.
Some day I will try and figure out what's up with them...I think they just quit working |
just buy some new switch blade keys and get them programmed- thats what i intend to do very soon:)
|
^^ same thing happened to me; thought it was just the battery but no luck. i'm saving up for the switchblade, but going on 3 or 4 months now of just using the key :( sucks when my gf is with me!

so do you have to reprogram when you replace the battery?
|
i don't know, but i guess that sounds like it might work. i didn't expect to need to do that, but i never tried...
|
I tried that and it didn't work for mine.....worth a try though :)
|
I think you do need to reprogram when your renew the battery.....
Taka has an easy Thread here on how to do... |
alan.
sorry i missed you call.. but try to reprogram.. i know that when i did my one key no fob, both of my old fobs did not work any more.. and that was like two years ago.. i doubt the batterys died.. beers  |
You should not have to reprogram after changing a battery. The Fob simply transmits an embedded unique number code that the car electronics has recorded as valid. Changing the battery should not alter the code that is transmitted. I doubt the fob is sophisticated enough to be sending anything complicated like the rolling codes of a garage door opener. Make sure the battery is in correctly and any connections are clean and unbroken.

I think when you re-program the new key you have to have your old ones handy to re-do ALL at the same time....probably because a new code is issued, so the old code will no longer work in the keys that you thought were OK.

This procedure worked for a lexus, it's free and worth a shot:
1] Stand within a couple feed of the car 2] hold the lock and unlock buttons down for 15 seconds or until a click is heard. I hope it works for the 8 |
^^^ that didnt work. I ran into this problem today. There really isnt a way to fix this?
Where do i buy the switchblade key. Dealer? Arent those an arm and a leg haha. No really I dont wanna have to drop too much for one. |

What year is your car? If you own a 2004 and uses the keychain FOB, you will: 1. Need to have the dealer program the FOB. OR 2. Buy a switchblade (like the one from eBay linked below) and follow the programming instructions for the Switchblade FOB.
MAZDA SWITCHBLADE KEY/FOB I have tried Takahashi's versions of programming the FOB for the 2004 RX-8 and niether worked. It did on the switchblade, however. The only sure way of reprogramming the 2004 FOB when the battery dies is through the dealer using the Mazda-Modular Diagnostic System. |
