Steel braided brake/clutch lines... worth it?
Are steel braided brake and/or clutch lines worth the cost?
Currently, I find that brake feel is a bit lacking and initially somewhat mushy. The clutch, on the other hand, is somewhat stiff but has plenty of feedback. If anyone has made the change, what are your observations? Thanks, Mike |
It will make a little difference but not drastic. also, the SS braid helps keep the line from bursting. So it should last longer.

I have the ss clutch line. not the brakes yet.

Unless you're racing, no need for SS lines

I had my clutch line blow out in 2008. 8 wasn't even too old yet. First issue I ever had outta my 8. |
What is the most noticeable difference in terms of feel and performance?
|
you will get a more "solid" braking feel, same thing for the clutch lines.
Performance? you will feel your brakes/clutch better so in the other words it's more predictable. does that mean yes? I guess. stock rubber lines last quite a while (usually 10 years or so), but they are rubber and they will break one day. not saying SS lines are indestructible cuz it's really just SS on the outside and inside I think it's teflon ? but it does outlast any stock rubber lines. |
I've had a Stoptech SS brake line burst on me a few weeks after install. Coming to a stop at a local red light.... Just food for thought.
|
i surely felt a difference when I installed my lines, I haven't done SS clutch line though... i wasn't sure if that was necessary.

you probably just had some shit luck ... |
They are StopTech's, not GR. The first time, I contacted ST and they replaced it for free. It happened AGAIN on the other side. I said "fuck that" and went back to my old rubber lines. And no, the SS braided ST's weren't crimped or binding.

bad quality I guess
my GR lines works fine, 3-4 yrs already and still rocking. :) |
stoptech must suck.
ss clutch line in the 8. ss brake and clutch lines in the 7. worth every penny. i got all mine from rotary performance in garland TX. mostly cuz it was convenient enough to just drive down to the shop and pick them up. I'll be ordering some brake lines for the 8 soon enough tho. |
My clutch pedal feels more stiff. I like the feel better, hoping to get ss brake lines soon.
|
Cheapest lines I have found are sold through mazdatrix. I have yet to install them though, so cant comment on anything further.
