Starter Issues?
So a week ago Sunday I moved my car out to wash it and then put it back into the garage. Both times I moved the car I revved the engine before I turned it off but I didnt ever let the engine warm up. Come Monday the car wont start and the battery gets weaker pretty quick. (most likely flooded)
So I tried to jump it and some how crossed the cables (impossible to do but I did it). So then I had my neighbor tried his booster amp or what ever it was 120 amps starter and still nothing. I had it towed to the dealership and they did the deflood procedure ($90 out of pocket, past warrenty). They suggested I replace the spark plugs and the starter and the battery. The plugs are 3 months new, the battery is 800 craking amps and less then 1 year old so I am thinking it is the starter but they didnt want to replace that for free even though I mentioned the TSB. Now I come to this past weekend. Parked the car on Friday evening (it was warm and I revved the engine). I didnt move it all weekend and then Monday morning I get the exact same thing. No start just clicking. I left it there to deal with later and got another ride to work. What are my options now? (It was deffinitly not flooded this time). Once I do get it started I will have the battery checked, does / can Autozone check the starter as well? Maybe I have to deflood the car myself (DIY :( not so easy)? Is there any cheap place to get the new starter ($340) the work seems quite easy after reading the DIY. I noticed a few similar threads posted in here in the past month what were those probelms caused by, how was it colved? I am in S. Californiai and it has been cold but nothing like back East. Any help is greatly apprecaited! |
Did the dealer clean the battery connections or change the battery? Check the charging system after you get it started, should be 14.25 volts; crossing the cables may have taken it out.

No they didnt clean it or replace it. I told them the battery is some what new and they still recommended replacing it. I will take the battery to autozone one way or another to get the battery tested.

Then if the battery tests OK, we can go from there. |
Well finally got the car jumper tonight and took it to Autozone to get tested. They tested the battery, alternator and starter and all were fine. Humm...
