SSV leaks--and thats normal!
 

I never knew this. In looking at that big old valve and how much it turns etc i always thought it sealed pretty good. Well--it doesnt. Matter of fact it has a pretty big leak.
Now this is probably not a big deal for engines that are not forced induced (??), but for FI guys this may have some impact? I am not certain but having an inconsistent air flow seems like it would? To top it off the 2 intakes I saw had small differences between the front and rear rotor runners as well from intake to intake.
I also did a home made wet flow test on the different intake runners--just playing around. It was interesting the swirl patterns the intake runners developed. The primarys are different from the secondarys as are different from the apv's.
The primaries swirl to the opposite side of the port! Probably doesnt mean anything? Has anyone ever did a flow test on this intake?

I am too old school I guess--cant get my head around that it is ok for the intake runners to not be sealed to their ports.

well i have found some things out that are interesting:
1- on the S2 model the ssv is activated whenever the secondary fuel injectors are activated, they are not rpm/load activated like the S1.
2--the s2 apv's has 2 position sensors ( one per valve) and this valve opens gradually in steps--no on and off.

Mazda does things for a purpose.
