Spring Time Tune-Up

Just thought I'd stop in and tell everyone about the tune-up that made me fall in love with my car all over again. I just turned 18k on my '05 and decided to try the Zoom engine cleaner and swap my plugs. It was also due for an oil change (Castrol GTX with K&N oil filter) and I threw in a drop-in K&N air filter.

I went through the de-carb steps and changed the oil and air filter while letting the Zoom soak. After almost two hours I started it up and only had one little puff of smoke out of the exhaust. I then wondered if it was actually going to prove worthwhile or not. I let the car warm up, revved it up to 6k 20 times per the TSB, shut it off and let it cool before changing the plugs. The old plugs seemed to be carboned up quite a bit.

I started it back up after the plug change and it sounded a bit different. Once again I was in doubt as to whether or not all of this work would pay off; however, as soon as I pulled out of the drive way I could tell the difference. The engine revs smoother and pulls stronger... as a matter of fact, I can honestly say that it runs better now than it has since I bought it (bought it used w/ 10k on it).
I understand most of you could care less to read my ramblings about this, but I'm still over-joyed about how she runs now. I am going to take a run at pre-mixing next, just waiting on my Idemitsu to arrive. This car just keeps getting better and better.

Its a can of engine cleaner you can get from your Mazda dealer for about $20. It worked wonders for me so far, I'm beyond pleased with the results.

Just get a friend to help you do it. It honestly (outside of the hour and a half I let it soak) only took about 15 minutes, if that, to do it. It was so much easier than the TSB made it sound.
