Spark Plugs with turbo
 

What king of spark plugs seem to run well with the greddy turbo kit? I'm afraid if i get the kit and keep the stock spark plugs they will go bad shortly after the turbo is up and running. Any suggestions?

with cooler weather here, I'd say stick with OEMs. I have the Densos. In warm weather, they work fine. In cooler weather, you'll get misfires before they warm up. I wanted the extra protection from detonation, but only running 6psi, and 10.5 AFR, I am going to go back to OEM until warm weather again.

Yea, it's gettin chilly outside so I'll probably leave the ones on there for now.

Mazsport sells some 3rd gen plugs with shims to use with the turbo. The are a step colder but use a different design to prevent fouling. They are only $10 too.

$10 is a lot better than $35 for the Denso's! I wish I had known about that!

In reading this thread, I thought it was a good idea to get those spark plugs from Mazsport, to use with the turbo. Only problem is, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to modding, but I'm learning little by little. I was wondering if anyone could do a DIY, or at least guide me through installing the spark plugs. I'm not even sure where they are located. I think two on each side of the engine, but I could be completely wrong about that. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

They are on the dirvers side of the engine. U'll see them, there are 4 inline covered in rubber spark plug covers like all spark plugs. Let me know how the swap goes, cus I'm seriously considering new ones too.

I would think again about the mazsport plugs. I had them installed about 4 weeks ago and they did work well. Since the weather has turned colder in northern NJ, my car has been terrible in the morning and even later in the day until the car warms up. I almost had an accident today when I went out for lunch left the parking lot with a car coming down the road quickly. I stepped on the gas and the car hesitated and misfired some much that I had to pull off to the side. I will be getting the OEM's back in this weekend.

That may not be related to the spark plugs though. Are you still running the emanage? If so, many people with the emanage and stock plugs are having problems with the car running right while cold. Let us know what happens when you switch back to the stock plugs though.

I have a set of these on order, so I'm curious when you first installed the Mazsport plugs did you notice it ran better at all?

Ok, I know the location you are referring to, thanks! Now are they all the same, or is each one different, and need to be placed in a specific spot?

U'll need to place the leading spark plugs in the right spot, as well as the the others. They will probably be labeled when u get them so u'll know.

I had the NGK/Mazdaspeed leading units from Canzoomer for a while (1 heat range colder). Functioned really well. Switched to the Denso's and car seems to be a bit rougher. I think next time I switch back to the NGK units.

So if let me make sure I understand. There are leading plugs, and trailing correct? How can I tell what is what when I'm looking at the engine?

a T and a L are cast into the engine block so you can't go wrong. They are also marked with colored tape so you can tell which is which.

Think of it this way
From the drivers side of the engine
The front half of the engine is #1 and the rear half is #2
Leading are the lower plugs
Trailing are the top plugs
T1 = top front
L1 = lower front
T2 = top rear
L2 = lower rear
With the plugs we ship the shims go on the trailing plugs only!
