I'm thinking a louder, lighter, performance exhaust for a little more HP... I'm hoping to balance the increase in noise with more sound proofing, and hopefully the weight increase caused by the sound proofing will be offset by the lightening of the lighter exhaust.

Has anyone done additional soundproofing (or soundproofing overhaul) of the RX-8?

I've seen some interesting sound damping products which are supposed to reduce vibration as well as noise. They weigh about .23 lbs per square foot and are meant to attach to sheet metal of doors, floors etc.

Does anyone have experience with these or other sound proofing products?

The aftermarket exhaust is not that much louder unless you go with a high flow cat or test pipe without a resonator.

The best bet is to try it first and fix it if it is too loud for your taste.

I had the SR cat on and when I installed the stock cat it cut the noise down by about 10 times....

If you like it quiet in the cabin a good noise dampening solution is to install a set of the Premium floor mats... on top of the stock ones. ;) easily reversable.

I installed Fatmat in half of my car, so far it helps. :D:

Do you recall the part on F&F when Ven gets out of the VS RX-7 shuts the door and you cant realy hear the sound once he shuts the door?
Well I think thats stuff is called "Dyno Matt" its cheper by the roll and you can cut it with a box opener check out www.cardomain.com they sell it on there store Or just have a Sound/Audio shop install it for ya. It will cut down on sound and rattles big time and if you got 10's in the back you will get a real solid punch! I got 2 12's so it feels good :yesnod:
