Excellent setup. Will be doing this in a month or so.
Thanks for the part # saves a bunch of experimenting. |
^^+1 I'm doing this in a few weeks as well, and seeing this makes it way easier to do the install. Thanks, one question have you have any issues with heat on the tanks in that location and issues with the hose?

One more thing what type of oil are you using? I've been looking around on the forum and most what I found is people using saber and motul but that's mostly for premixing, using the SOHN adapter you would think that any good performance 2-stoke oil would do right. What you guys think?

props for a clean install, ive wanted to use 3 metal containers if i were to get the sohn. Washer, oil and coolant.. Then maybe if theres space mount a tiny braille battery there too.
anybody have any links to metal canisters i can use? EDIT: i know about mazsport and i dont want to even attempt looking for a set, nor do i want to pay that absorbant price for cans. |
Sounds good thanks Rotaryman13, also EricB rx8 performance sells metal containers they are the only ones I've seen aside from mishimoto and weapon-R but they are all expensive your better off doing this setup and relocating your battery to the trunk that's what I did..

I wanted to use idemitsu, but it says on the Mazdatrix website not to use it with ethanol or ethanol based fuels. I have a couple of non-ethanol stations around me, but when we go out of town I have to settle for whatever. I got the castrol b/c it was cheaper and easier to obtain.
Though I hate walmart, they're the only place that sells JASO FD oil around here, and it's about $35/gal |
Sub for reference, good stuff!

The Castrol is rated JASO FB. I didn't think it would hurt to use the Idemitsu with E10, but I decided to stick with mineral-based. From what I have read, the new ratings only refer to low smoke and low ash because they are full synthetic. Low ash is good, but anything has to be lower ash than burning motor oil. TC-W3 is a rating used for outboard motor oils used in boats.

JASO FB is better than TC-W3, from what I understand TC-W3 isn't any help to our engines because they run at such high rpms (and aren't boats lol). The JASO FD is better than the FB though...how much did the gallon of Castrol cost?

That's pretty cool. I considered the Protek also, but Iwas trying to stay simple. I check out Pettit and a few others every so often to look for new products, but I haven't seen this yet. Makes me wanna go burn some of mine.

rotaryman13, what was the process of transferring over the washer bottle sensor and pick up to the usplastics bottle?

I am a new member, but I have had my 8 for about two years. Here are some pics of my sohn adapter and reservoirs. It had about 25,000 miles on the reman. motor when I got it and has about 65,000 miles now. Hopefully this will help it live a little longer. I wish that I had installed one the day I got the car. I premixed one tank at 1/2 oz. per gallon to be safe until the air works its way out.
just ordering my adapter and need to find a tank for 2t |
I didn't want to start a new thread so below my install.
The container is from a scooter and it iwas equipped with a sensor. The sensor ends with a nice diode inside the car. The install was done ba a local shop TRAX Racing in Poland. I am putting there Motul 800 2T Racing which I also use for premix - 100ml per tank. Excuse me for bad quality pictures... http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/6199/img1459se.jpg http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/1797/img1460vx.jpg http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/6214/img1461s.jpg |
interesting, is it possible to show us how the reservoir is mounted? and what exact model did the tank come from?

thanks for making this a no brainer. I'm off to Lowes now to buy a 1 1/4" spade.

I think that video of the oil comparison really isn't too scientific.
What is the temperature at the point of injection in a renesis? ~1700*F? (+- 300*F) I could put 5 types of different engine oils in a similar test and the one that discolors immediately claim it breaks down faster/ promotes carbon deposits. |
