Sohn adapter tank solutions

Hi,

I was trying to figure out a solution for having a separate 2-stroke oil tank for the Sohn adapter, while keeping the original windshield washer reservoir. I couldn't find a common solution folks have found, after a bit of experimenting came out with this:

The tank comes off a Suzuki GT185 bike, and there are tons of these on eBay for 20-30 bucks. There's a member on here who used an oil tank off a Honda Dio, which gave me the idea.. just couldn't find a Dio tank. It sits in there pretty snugly, and the outlet is at the back near the firewall at an angle for minimal forward/backward sloshing. Anyway, there is enough oil line from there to the OMP to keep it fed even if the tank sloshes around.

There is foam padding between the tank and the brake master cylinder, and the again the ABS lines to avoid metal on plastic. I'll see how long that lasts, could be a wear item. That said, nothing there really moves much.

So yeah.. if anyone else found a simple non-intrusive solution for a reservoir, post up, think it would help new people out.

Figured to ask here instead of making a new thread about it.
Just order the Sohn adaptor and will start looking for a suitable tank.
Of course loads of options out there, but I want to try to go one step further.

What I would like to do is get a tank that also comes with a sensor in it so when the contained liquid goes below a certain threshold, a light would turn on to warn the driver. I assume this would be an easier solution that a sensor that actually estimates how much of the tank is full.

I know that many cars have this for their washer fluid and was thinking of just getting one of those tasnks, but those tanks are usually quite large and that could pose other problems. I also do not want to use the cars washer fluid tank. So what i need is a tank small enough to be able to be fitted easily under the hood, but also offers the mentioned functionality.

Any ideas on what tank would work with this idea or if it actually possible to add this functionality to a tank that does not have it?

Cheers guys

Many scooter, moped or ATV oil injection tanks come with a sensor built in, and are roughly the right size. You would just need to power the sensor and wire up the light.

I found an HHO tank on ebay that has temp sensor and a sensor for warning when the liquid is low in the tank already attacked on it. Will probably not use the temp sensor though.

oil level sensor

I have not installed my adaptor and tank yet, I'm still looking for ideas. I am thinking about getting another oil level sensor and installing it in my tank then wiring it directly with the oil pan sensor. in theory if either one is low then the oil light on the dash will light up.

What do ya'll think?

So fun fact about 30 year old plastic motorcycle tanks from my first post: if you put force on it, it will crack. I'm not sure if someone was in a rush to get at the oil filter behind it, or if the plastic fatigued from vibration, but the drain nipple at the bottom of the tank split and leaked oil. Made a nice puddle of 2-stroke under my car.

Soooo.. new solution. I used an el cheapo catch can off ebay ($30) and a $5 sheet of aluminium from the home hardware section of Canadian Tire to fab this:

Just installed, feels pretty solid all around. After a 30 min cruise, no signs of rubbing and is warm but not hot to the touch. Will post a DIY.
