Service Manuals

Where can you buy factory service manuals for the rx8?

Gyro 12-31-2003 09:44 AM

They have part number, so I would assume your parts dept can order one.

DragonStar4681 12-31-2003 10:34 AM

I saw a link to order them on the Mazda web site. not sure where though think it was under the performance area

huhsler 12-31-2003 10:45 AM

My Mazda dealership allowed me to peruse their "service manual" for the RX-8. Either I'm looking at the wrong thing or Mazda has really dropped the ball.

The one I looked at had basic instructions that referred to other Mazda manuals. It wouldn't be very useful for actually doing things yourself.

The manual I looked at had a light-blue cover and "2004 RX-8" on the cover.

Thoughts?

At the moment, there is no hard-bound shop manual sets in the retail channel.
In fact, none of the Mazda dealsers in my area even have them for their shops.
They have what you looked at - the "Service Highlights" manual.
For the real manual, you need to go to www.mazdatechinfo.com which is where the dealers go as well.
They have the complete manual online for a subscription.
You can subscribe for a day and browse as much as you like.
I did this and managed to "browse" the entire manual into a PDF.;)
Be prepared - its about 3000 pages.

When are you going to post a link to it???

markpmm 12-31-2003 11:15 AM

He just did.

The only manual at dealer level in hard copy right now is the "service highlights"
Kind of a quick reference to different areas of the car.

Maniac,

Where was this info about two days ago? :) I sure could have used it. Maybe I should have searched harder. Thanks for sharing.

huhsler 12-31-2003 11:39 AM

lol. I think rotaryitup wanted the link to actually download the PDF! Hehe...

doccable 12-31-2003 11:52 AM

For what its worth, I found a copy of the "Service Highlights Manual" on e-Bay for around $135 USD. I'd like to find the electrical manual, though...

WHealy 12-31-2003 12:00 PM

Oh yea. The other piece of my post was to point out that CanZoomer sells the paper version.

HEVNSNT 01-01-2004 02:25 PM

They should be available at your dealer. I got mine a few months ago. There are several sets, general, electrical, body, etc.

I checked with mine a week ago. They said they couldn't order them nor did they even have one. Are you in the US?

Hi WHealy,
Good point on asking if HEVNSNT is in the US .... from his sig which says Waterloo, having posted in the Canada forum, and posessing a service manual, I'm guessing the manual was purchased in Canada.

It seems that the manuals have been available in Canada for months, but not in the US. At least not from the two dealers I checked with and what some others including yourself are reporting.

I wonder what the story is behind hardcopy manuals being unavailable here in the US this long after being available in Canada? Will our manuals have more content :D ?

Anyone know how the US and Canadian differ? I guess emissions would be one major difference.

Regards,
rx8cited

What are these publications that are listed in the user's manual? Seems like dealers should be able to order these, doesn't it?

Publication # Description
9999-95-064B-04 2004 WORKSHOP MANUAL (English)
99999-95-040G-04 2004 WIRING DIAGRAM (English)

MazdaManiac 01-23-2004 12:03 AM

Yo can add to that these numbers:

2004 Mazda RX-8 Service highlights
9999-95-102F-04

Engine Workshop Manual 13B-MSP
9999-95-E13B-MSP

Automatic Transmission Workshop Manual RC4A-EL
9999-95-RC4A-EL

Manual Transmission Workshop Manual Y16M-D
9999-95-T15M-D

2004 Mazda RX-8 Bodyshop Manual
9999-95-120F-04

However, all of the local Mazda parts counters STILL say thiese are not available.
No matter for me, I have the entire electronic manual on CD, which contains everything.

I did the 24 access thing at mazdatechinfo.com one day between xmas and new years. I wasn't thrilled with the site structure and my meager scripting abilities couldn't come up with a way to get everything automatically so I viewed and saved each page and linked TIFF by hand. I got *almost* everything...missing a few pages of the automatic transmission section (the one section I know that I won't need :D). I'm slowly laying out the whole thing in InDesign with the high res TIFFs instead of the crappy GIFs. Maybe I'll have the whole thing done by the time I replace the car with something else in a few years.

Oh, and I'm in suburban MD too.

Is there a link where we could download it? Please...

SCiMMiA 01-23-2004 10:07 AM

www.mazdatechinfo.com

Oh, nevermind. You mean the CD he has. My bad.

Omicron 01-23-2004 10:11 AM

You're not likely to find a link to download the service manuals, unless you go to Mazda and pay for them. Taking an FTP copy from someone who bought the electronic version of the manual would be a violation of copyright law. :(

Hi Maniac,
How does one go about aquiring or creating this CD? Did you download the files from mazdatechinfo.com?

Thanks,
rx8cited

Yeah, but it would be great to have a script for DL-ing the thing in its entirety off the techinfo site in a day :D

No copyright violation there.

perhaps 'wget' in mirror mode or somesuch? I imagine most already know about wget (it's been around for a long time now), but for those who don't:

Description: Automatic web site retreiver
GNU Wget is a free network utility to retrieve files from the World
Wide Web using HTTP and FTP, the two most widely used Internet
protocols. It works non-interactively, thus enabling work in the
background, after having logged off.

The recursive retrieval of HTML pages, as well as FTP sites is
supported -- you can use Wget to make mirrors of archives and home
pages, or traverse the web like a WWW robot.

Web site: http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/wget.html

Cheers,
-jd.
