Seriously stuck flywheel + newb == fail
Hey guys. I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong place. I'm down to my flywheel here, but I'm having an insane amount of trouble getting it off.
I bought my RX-8 last week and knew it needed a new clutch. I towed it back to my place and got to work on it. I read about the different methods to get it off. I took a hammer to the outside (not the gear ring) and tried to screw 2 bolts into the flywheel to press against the crank. However, I stopped screwing the bolts in because I felt I got them in too far/tight and didn't want to ruin anything. As I was backing them out today, I broke the heads off of the bolts (both Grade 8...). I think the threads might be a little F'd. Assuming I can get the bolts out, what should I try next? This thing is seriously stuck in there. I know that the general answer is to apply more force, but I'm worried I'm about ruining my car here. Loosening the bolts put a lot of torque on the whole assembly. Suggestions? |
do you have the flywheel remover tool?

Can we get pics?
My flywheel almost fell off after I unbolted it from the crank. |

Assuming the nut is off, then put back on a few turns, put a 2x4 against the outer edge of the flywheel and hit it with a big hammer. This makes the steel hammer a dead blow hammer. Just a steel hammer will not work. That worked for me.
Best I got for now. Where are your? |
