Seriously gummed up intake???

I have owned this car since 10/03 and it has been driven like it was stolen most of the time since I've had it. Plenty of weekly testing of the beep at close to redline, always use 91 oct. fuel, last year I switched to Royal Purple full synthetic (after I noticed power loss and hesitation at ambient temps above 80*F), and my coils were just replaced last month after it was discovered that the bottom side was completely fried.

What the hell!

Where is this part ex on the 8? I'm just getting into all this kind of stuff, and whats going to happen now?
|
You are using junk gas without enough of the proper detergent additives. Change to a better fuel (see toptiergas.com) or add Techron.
|
Where is STL when you need him?
|
Doesn't look like the gas caused this - there IS no gas in those passages, the injectors are downstream.
There is (supposedly) pure air in those cross chambers and valves, the only thing it could be would be crankcase venting gases. A catch-can for the vapors might have caught all that..... S |
What would the RP have to do with this?
|
What is RP? Thanks!

I remember reading about a huge debate about synthetic and non-synthetic. I can't find the thread anymore though...

Thats what I thought.

That was Mazda. They replaced the intake completely last week. I just got it back on Friday 9/28. It drives much better. They also replaced my throwout bearing (wasn't that what I originally thought my squeeking was coming from... fixed it). I've been extremely happy with the way the car sounds again. Realize that I've been complaining about poor gas mileage and poor idle since the first year. No one had been able to tell me what was going on with my car. They have a new mechanic at Herzog Meier and blam! They figure it out on that visit. This guy is a lot better. My gas mileage did improve by the way. Here's a little background on the car. *I brought it home on 10/20/03 and it had all of 7 miles on the ODO after the dealership did the initial safety test. *up until last year I always gave it the rev before shutting it off. *In the winter while living in Spokane the car would see temps as low as -25*F. *I used Castrol 5x20 w oil until last year when I switched to RP 5x20 w. *I have always used 92 oct fuel and from Shell, Chevron, or Union 76 (except for in very rare cases where I had no choice). *Oil maintenance was always done by me and I used Mazda oil filters until last year when I switced to K&N). *I have a K&N drop in filter (oiled properly and cleaned regularly). *I have had the car in the shop regularly for different things and brought up the poor idle, gas mileage, and loss of power regularly. This was not caused by the air filter. This is just way too much carbon build up. These are the secondary air intakes going down into the block. |
