Series 2 Rotor Housing

I was sitting in bed last night, and this came to me. If this was previously discussed and I missed it, I apologize, I could not find it.

I have been reading a lot of the threads about failures, and about series 1 vs series 2. I know that for series 2, they redesigned a lot of little things, including the OMP and the fuel injectors. My premise is simple:

Could you put the updated rotor housings in a series 1 engine? You would gain the center OMP nozzle (better oiling). Now, you do have additional fuel injectors, but I assume you could block those ports off and just use the four you had before. This would give you the better oil dispersion of a series 2, but the benefits of the SOHN from series 1. The racing beat oil mod can be used to increase oil pressure, to get closer to series 2 levels.

Im not talking about a series 2 engine in a series 1 car, I know thats been debated to death.

Would you gain anything from the extra oil nozzle? How much trouble would this be, assuming you are already doing a complete tear down. From what I could see, the dowel pins to connect the housings together are the same, so it should work mechanically.

Just spitballing here, let me know what you think

:dunno:

There is more you are missing (yes, even just related to the housings, omp, etc...). No, it's not that easy. Given enough money, yeah, you could. Whether or not it is worth it is up to you.

OK..

First there are no Fuel Injectors in any Renesis (S1 or S2) which are mounted directly into the main 2 alloy Rotor Housings.

Next, the Oil Injectors are not the same between Series, let alone if the thread side of S1 injectors would fit in S2 Rotor Housings.

You can not use S2 oil injectors in a S1 RX-8.

Apart from all that , yes the S2 Rotor Housings would fit in S1, but as I said what about the Oil Injectors?...

This is S2 only OI's (pic) and are designed to be exclusively used with the S2 EMOP system, not with the MOP used in S1 which also requires the atmospheric (vac lines) attached to each 4 OI's, the 6 S2's OI's do not use or are designed/made to use these (vac lines).

I have not checked if S1 OI's would fit in S2 RH (thread size/pitch/injector seat length and position).

Sorry about the blurry S2 OI pics

Here is a Series 1 OI set up (thanks Smutter)..

In S2 basically where you see those black vac lines (on OI's) is where the S2's engine oil supply (from EMOP) goes via a small banjo bolt which screws directly into top of different S2 OI's.

i know someone who built a s1 with s2 housings. had a long talk with him about it at a dyno day, wont mention names because hes banned here (figure it out)

Yeah my buddy did this as well, you just block off the spot for the 3rd injector and you have to drill and tap for the oil pan bolts because they don't line up on an S1.

And OP, you need to spend less time starting threads and more time reading.

the build im talking about used the 3rd injector

Nice, we considered that but testing it before hand proved to be too much of a PIA. Just feeding off the existing system seemed too risky without proper bench testing.

Yeah, understood..

And I forgot about the larger capacity S2 Oil Pan (which is different)....

And the irons (Side Housings) for S2 .....
It is the guts (inside engine, rotors, etc, what spins is basically the same as S2 and can be used in S1 (updated), but like we have said virtually everything else around them is different in some way, either small or large, give or take bolts and nuts, gaskets and water seals, (even the Engine Gasket + O Ring sets are different because of the extra 13 copper washers used in EMOP system, different timing cover.
It just goes on and on :)

In the end how far does one want to go?
