Rx8 MODS
 

Hello again RX8 fans,
It has been some time since i last visited the Club. I feel like a newbie and I want to appolgize. I should be more loyal. But enough said
Have a couple of MODS that I have done to the 8 that hopefully I can post here pretty soon with pics and instructions. Some of these you have probably allready done or heard.
1. OMP apadter with oil resevoir next to air box.
2. Full audio system-with OEM still inplace.
3. 600 song digital CD changer with Iplug connector in ashtray.
4. Side vents lights
5. Fogs lights on independently from headlights

The one I just recently did is turning the coolant light off on the dash when the sensor is faulty. This one is really easy. One of two ways to do this.

I did these one because I cannot stand any light on that should not be on. And I was not going to pay the dealer the rediculous $75 an hour to tell that the sensor in the ressevoir is faulty.
1. The easy one-disconnect the grey plug that is next to the resevoir-THAT'S IT.
The light should go off- But keep in mind that, now you must check the coolant level periodically. Also, as you might have found out, that all RX8's are not created
equal. In some 8's the light will stay on despite that the grey plug is disconnected.
2. If this happens, you can put a 15.41 mega OHM resister inline on the opposite
side on the grey plug that was disconnected. The sensor in the resevoir is like a little floater that has resistance on it that is interperted as info (full/low/empty)
if the resistor does not work-than to the dealer we shall go

Keep in mind many of us have had water pump related failures.

Checking my coolant level frequently did not help me find this water pump leakage problem. I found out while driving home from work at night when I saw steam coming out from under the hood after smelling burning antifreeze. My low coolant sensor had failed several weeks prior. No signs of leakage were present on my garage floor prior to the failure. Coolant was pouring out when this failure happened - it was not a slow drip.

After I replaced my coolant reservoir due to a bad level sensor, someone posted that they've had luck with other vehicles fixing the level sensor problems by removing and rinsing the coolant reservoir which rinses crap off the sensor. If that does not work or one does not want to bother trying it, buy a brand new coolant reservoir for ~$175 shipped. $175 is cheap insurance IMHO to get early notification of a coolant leak and prevent your engine from getting cooked.

Please Explain about water pump related failures? If the coolant is leaking slow or fast, on drive way or in the ingine bay. There should be some indicator that the coolant is being lost some where other than relying on the indicator light?::yelrotflm
