WOW....great find here!!!
Here is the complete engine diagnostics and troubleshooting steps to take for each. Looks like what the Techs use. Credit to revolutionrotorclub.com for the link and Google for letting me find it!!!

Renesis engine rebuilt/overhaul manual
1 Attachment(s)
I found this copy of the S1 Renesis engine service/overhaul manual on the web. Haven't checked it against my actual manual to see if it's complete or not. It seems to end abruptly.
|
Yeah, that is incomplete
|
S2 focused, but appears to provide the accurate S1 info as well. Have not found similar S1 document to compare for accuracy.

I just wanted to add this here as some Dealers are telling owners that their PCM/ECU needs replacement when CEL and code (DTC) P0610 which is PCM malfunction and or configuration error...this is not always correct as in most cases the ECU/PCM will survive after this re-config..see PDF.
Many Mazda Dealers are not giving out correct advise and or performing the correct IDS update/config procedure. To reconfigure ANY Mazda PCM and or re-flash (update) make sure your dealer performs the attached PDF instructions with Mazda IDS (MMDS), it is not, repeat NOT, the procedure that Mazda IDS will instruct the Dealer to do, as the 'normal' IDS Instruction will in many cases not resolve the issue or advise for the PCM to be renewed when this is not actually needed. The reconfiguration MUST be performed EXACTLY to the letter in the PDF..""MZ PCM Recovery"" It is also imperative that your RX-8's Battery is in good/top condition and in most cases a 20 AMP Battery Charger should also be attached when the VCM/IDS is in use as it can drain car battery without a suitable tender or battery jumper. |

Does anyone know what the CAN bus protocol is for a series 1 RX8? I know it is 11 bit (500kb) but is it j1939? I know its too old for j1969. I'm trying to power aftermarket gauges in an RX8 renesis into an MGB, using the RX8's ECU, but it seems I need to know which protocol is being used to know which adaptor might work.

I have a 2004 mazda rx8 and I am wondering why I am pulling 15 volts from the OBD2? I had lost my keys and was having a set made The locksmith made the key and when he went to program it he said that my OBD2 was pulling 15 volts and he didn't know why. Would you happen to be able to help with this?

5. Differential
The Limited Slip Differential (LSD), which prevents wheels from slipping when cornering or suddenly starting, is essential for sports driving. Torque sensing LSD was adopted for the RX-7 ahead of other companies, and its response to accelerator operation, vehicle controllability, and traction at the start of a corner have been well received in the market. With the RX-8, we have further improved the vehicle controllability while maintaining the well-received responsiveness and traction, aiming to develop an LSD that is fun and safe for all drivers to drive in both limit and normal driving. To achieve this, we have developed a new torque sensing type LSD “Super LSD” with a structure that the RX-8 has a low torque bias ratio (TBR) and the friction surface does not change regardless of the driving direction. Furthermore, by adding initial torque, the controllability of the vehicle during cornering is improved by suppressing changes in the differential limiting force when the driving direction between the acceleration and engine brakes changes, and the vehicle stability during start and straight running is improved. Increased. As a result, we were able to achieve both vehicle controllability and stability. Fig.8 shows the cross section of Super LSD, and Fig.9 shows the differential control. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...d811a9e39.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...cbd6aa450.jpeg |
A boatload of service manual and other RX8 information, but in chinese language.
You can still glean a lot of information if you’re resourceful. Not sure how long this will last, but get it while you can: https://share.qclt.com/汽车论坛免费资料第三期/Mazda%20RX-8%20车间手册/ . |

Had a quick look and it looks like it covers a lot of the stuff a Service Manual would cover, but if you go under 动力总成(powertrain), there are some animations for the different mechanisms of the engine. |
oops 😬 although they share a lot of kanji, I should have noticed there wasn’t any katakana :doh:was just ripping through the downloads :eyetwitch
