RX-8 Engine Problems

Hi, About 5 Months ago I purchased my 3rd car in my whole life and since Im paying for it I wanted it to be something I actually wanted. I bought it with 50,000 Miles on the car. I haven't had a problem yet till about a week ago when basically anytime I get close to around 6k RPM's the gas will cut in and out like im laying on and off of it. In 6th gear it wont go above around 4k RPM's and regular driving randomly it will feel as if im putting the gas on and off when im not. Im freaking out and I dont really have the money to pay the Mazda people to look at my car let along tell me how much money Im going to have to pay them to just fucking do 2 things to it. I live in the Tampa area and really need some help. If anyone has any clue or has run across this problem please help, I tried fuel Injector clearer but Im pretty sure it dident work but Ill give it a day or 2. Thanks

The car is probably still covered under the extended warranty that Mazda instituted a few years ago for these cars. As I recall it is 5 years or 60K miles. In any case, to verify, call the Mazda customer service 800 number in your owners manual or email them to find out. You will need to provide them with your VIN.

Then have a dealer check it out. Based on your description of the problem, it could be a failed coil(s), bad spark plug(s), clogged cat converter, or something else entirely.

Does a check engine light come on when your engine bogs? Have you ever changed your spark plugs, wires, and coils?

yep... they need to check your cat to see if it's failing, and then engine compression test to make sure the engine is OK.

both are still covered under warranty. So take it to a dealer.

If you're in Tampa, I highly recommend bringing it to Wesley Chapel Mazda (by 54 and i75)

Mazsport is in Tampa. Give Scott a call to see what he thinks.

I would recommend Mazsport too, but the issue described should be covered under warranty. No sense in paying out of pocket for it.
