RX-8 Break in!!!
hello people.. as u can see i'm a newbie to the car... and yes ROtary engine too... i was wondering I've heard that rotary engine needs a lil diff break in then the ordinary piston engines... is that true? if so, how would i do it? just keep low rpm shift and low speed for the 1st 4000 miles??

Read your owners manual. It is discussed there.

I think that it says the break in is about 600 or something low like that...but I left the dealership in a cloud of buring rubber. Breaking in a vehical sucks, I never have and I never will...However the longest I've kept a new vehical is 3 years.

Note to self ...
Avoid used cars, especially Winning Blue RX-8s around Fort McMurray. |
Mazda says 600 miles, Racing Beat suggested 1000 miles and then gradually using it harder. I pretty much stuck to the Mazda recommendation, although even so I had a few moments of weakness. I originally intended to follow the RB recommendation, but...I just couldn't do it. It is HARD not to rev this car!

from the title of this thread, I thought someone broke into your car.

someone broke into my 8 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa at Grotto's Pizza

The manual states while no formal break in is necessary, they do recommend varying the RPMs and speed for the 1st 600 miles, I think it also mentions avoid high rev's at length during the same period.

With piston engined cars you can have a problem staying at a certain rpm and speed as this can form a wear pattern in the cylinder..........With wankle engines this is not much of a problem but high revs should be avoided for prolonged periods of times.

I hated it but for the first 600 I shifted before 5000 RPM, the from 601-1000 I shifted before 7500, the moment I hit 1001 I floored it due to pent up tension, of wanting more rev. Good thing I was on 95 in DC.
