rubber accordian tube for intake
 
i had to ship mine off. so currently im running a short ram attached straight to the throttle body. attached with... duct tape. :eyetwitch

its attached well, but the three hoses that attach to the accordian i taped off with duct tape. so it runs. but it makes high pitched noises. :uhh:

how important are those hoses? and until i can get my aem, is it ok to leave them capped? or should i get little air filters at autozone to attach to them?

The high pitch noise if probably coming from the oil breather hose.
I recall someone posted a video with it.

2nd hose goes to the intake manifold.
There are two "tubes" that extended into the engine where the primary intake runners are.
My belief is that this is to relief pressure in the block (correct me if I'm wrong).

3rd hose goes to a manifold for the VDI, SSV, and AIR solenoid.
This might be the most important to have since it needs vacuum to actuate the valves.

I would say the one that goes to the oil metering nozzle manifold is the most important. If you do not have your VFAD hooked up, you could manifold them all together and use the VFAD nipple behind the throttle body for a vacuum source.

Damn... you're right Charles.
The hose for the VDI, SSV, and AIR solenoid is on the UIM, not the accordion tube like I mentioned above.
Good catch there... I need more caffeine!

my vfad is not hooked up. great idea, i'll see if it fits.

which hose is this?

btw, car runs "fine" like this. some stumbles coming to a stop though.

well i was only looking for the omp hose to connect it to the manifold. i wasnt going to manifold them together. but if no one knows, thats ok. hopefully its going to be this way just for a few days.

so best to just leave it taped up.. or to poke a small hole in the tape... or to completely let it hang loose?

They are actually controlled/metered vacuum "leaks". If you were to manifold them together the vacuum would render the jet-air and OMP nozzles useless as they need to see atmospheric pressure in order to work best. If you apply equal vacuum levels on both sides things may not work so swell.

My bad - I thought about that after I posted. Curious, under acceleration, will there not be a vacuum applied to those hoses?

I'm out in the garage looking at the setup again. That whole accordion tube is weird. I busted one of those cheap plastic elbows the other day, and improvised a temp until I got one from Jason for $5.65 each. Must be really nice plastic at those prices - LOL
