RP SUPERCAT : emissions
Hey guys,
i purchased the RP supercat a bit ago, and at that time, the site said that the supercat should pass emissions.. blah blah blah i'm having trouble accessing the site, and i'm in NY, so i'm wondering, will the RP SUPERCAT pass the emissions test? |
You will have to have NY test it to find out but on a new car why do you have to?
RP is located in Texas so one would not expect them to care about NY state. They also have this on their site http://rx7.com/store/rx8/rx8exhaust.html#supercat "Because this is a new design, CARB and Federal emissions certificate is pending. This is a perfectly street-able cat system but is for off-road use only" Which means your on your own. I wouldn't say anything when/ if you get it inspected. |
Just keep the part modular and hold onto your OEM cat. And if the problem arises, it's a simple switch back to the OEM.
|
sold the oem cat... that's why i ask.
|
uh oh..i hope it passes for you then :p
|
as long as it doesnt' throw a cel you shoudl be fine...nor,mally for emmisions they just plug into your OBD II port and the car will tell them if it passes or not..hehe so as long as your 8 is happy no worries
|
NO CEL for me!! YES!
a CEL light never even went on when i installed it... i love the supercat! |
no worries then...but i would check how they test cars in NY for emissions do they use a sniffer or just plug it in?
|
It's just a plug-in. I just had mine done, I thought they were gonna take a while, but they guy just sat in the car and presto, done. Jaehyun if all comes to worse, there are other ways *whistle* :D

|
damnit... i have hookups in MD... but not in NY... damnit!!
i hope they don't do the sniff test :fingers crossed: |
Jaehyun here's the website of what they do for the NYS inspection:
http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c-50.htm http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/vehsafe.htm#einspect From the quick/lazy reading I did, it seems that they dont "sniff", just look :p Al |
anyone know if the supercat is needed to be taken off for dealership appointments on recalls and such?
|
so long as you don't have a cel, thats all that matters. take it to your dealer and they will plug into the computer to do the test. You might want to get a canscan or scanalyzier just to make sure your cat is meeting all the cars computer tests, but it should be a non issue. I'm fairly certain it will also pass a sniffer test.

Im in NYC and I found some of the *inspection* is pretty funny, like this one
Each Tire (Except spare) * Tread depth - must be at least 2/32 inch when measured in two adjacent major tread grooves showing the most wear. * Tire condition - check for any fabric break or cut over 1 inch, visible bumps, bulges or knots, and any restricted use designation on the tire. LOL, I've seen so many *treadless* tires running around with brand new Inspection stickers. |
