Royal Purple oil weight
I know a lot of folks are using 10w30 RP oil, but is this the preferred weight? They offer 5w20 and 5w30. I'm in Virginia and summer is right around the corner. I'm thinking of picking up some 10w30 soon but wanted a few extra opinions.
No search flames please, just opinions and experiences. Thanks |
Just pick one of them. You'll be fine any way you go. 5W30 and 10W30 are basically the same weight oil when it's hot.

I live in Houston and run 5W-30 with no issues.
|
i would go for 10w40

I wouldn't go over a 30W oil personally. There is absolutely zero benefit from doing so anyways. No greater protection either. Just added drag. The Renesis bearing tolerances are a bit tighter than the 13B bearings which is a big reason as to why you can run a thinner oil. You don't want to get too thick of an oil in there.

Retailer near me has 10w30 in stock, but no 5w30. Looks like it going to be 10w30 for me.

I thought the oil cap and manual said to use 5w20! I put Royal Purple 5W20 XPR in mind and love it.

Either will be fine.
