Rough idle , hesitation , stalling at idle

I recently got back from deployment so undecided to clean my ms and throttle body. After cleaning it the car began to have a rough idle and stall and have hesitation and loss of performance. I took it to the shop and got a new mas but the prob continued. I bought some fuel injector cleaner and it runs. Little better but getting out of first it's sluggish and feels like it wants to die. 04 rx8 , greddy turbo, greddy sp2 exhaust, racing beat midpipe . Any help wor ideas would be appreciated , thank you

Im going to throw the obvious choice out their, when was the last time you changed coils, plugs, and wires??

Does the ms intake have screens if so they might not be in correctly or the maf could be dirty try cleaning our car both will make your car run like the poopy.

No offense ... but you have a turbo charged RX8 and you need help about rough idle?

Well anyways forget that ......

I had a huge idle issue when my eccentric shaft sensor was dirty ....
Check it out here ... https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/p0335-eccentric-shaft-position-sensor-circuit-problem-car-will-not-idle-194505/#post3511384

Where is the eccentric shaft sensor located? Im honestly new to the tuning world and bought my car from another soldier stationed in savannah. I had a new ms installed and i tried usong fuel injector cleaner although i honestly dont know the last time it was dyno tuned. Im drivng back to va this week so ill be sure to get that down. An idea of where th eccentric sensor is would be appreciated , thanks again

Go here

And look under Engine ..... Control System .... Eccentric Shaft Sensor Inspection

It's a 04 prob should check compression if still qualify for the extended core warranty of 8/100k.

I took it to get diagnosed and th code came up as my car running too lean. I'll try new
plugs wires and coils though. I appreaciate the help fellas

MMMMmmm
Lean situations can be caused by a lot of things, not the least of which could be a failed Rear HO2 sensor, I speak from experience.

ANy chance you can get the code, lots of people here to help you with it

How does a failed rear O2 Sensor make the car run lean?

Easy_E1 05-17-2010 06:01 PM

How old is the fuel in the car?

No, but it could be reporting it erroneously.

Easy_E1 05-17-2010 06:48 PM

From my understanding the rear O2 sensor will tell you only that the cat has failed. It reads the difference from the front O2 and the rear O2 and reports to the PCM. As far as I am aware that is all it does. No control over the PCM fuel delivery.

I'm just saying.

Check you don't have a vac leak..it will throw a CEL for 2 lean with a small vac leak........

travis30734 03-14-2015 02:04 PM

no cel same issue

I get a chance I'm going to take a look at the ess I replaced the maf new plugs the guy I bought it off of changed the wires b4 he sold it but I did notice one of the coils where the spark plug wire goes into doesn't have copper in it could this also be adding to the problem? B4 all this happened two weeks ago I drove it to work made it half way home 60 mph coming onto an exit ramp and decelerating it just shut off thought it was just the alternator starting to think different.

rough idle, surge, hesitation

Crazy thing, after searching for answers and hitting a dead end every time. I did something that solved my RX 8 idle problem. something real simple. Flash back; When i replaced the ECU on my Nissan frontier it was idling like crap so i had to reset the idle. Nissan idle is reset using the gas pedal. So fast forward to 3/11/2021 and my RX 8. After hours of trouble shooting I started the car and it still ran like crap. I did the brake pedal reset, started it up and still ran like crap. In desperation I turned the engine off I sat in the car thinking what TF, I remembered my frontier, I put the key on position without starting the car and pumped the gas pedal several times and the check engine started flashing, put the key to off position then started the car. Bingo, it idle to 1500 RPM then settled down to 900 rpm. I let it idle for a while. test drive, perfect idle. no power loss at low rpms. Now keep in mind I did not follow Nissans exact steps. I make no promises, desperate times sometime call for desperate measures. Good luck I hope it works for you

Just saw that this was a reeeeeeeeal old thread.

Anyways, I don't think that there is an rx8 'reset' procedure that happens when you press the gas pedal with the key in the 'on' position. The only thing I know of is holding the gas pedal upon starting will cut the fuel, which can work as an impromptu way to deflood the engine.

Likely there was an issue with your throttle body and by having the key on and pressing the gas pedal it cycled your throttle body enough times that somehow the issue resolved itself.
