Rotors Resurfaceable?

Hi guys<

Are these rotors resurfaceable?

Rotor housings... I think your allowed like 2mm of chrome flaking from the edges, and your at like 40mm from those pictures.... So the answer would be a hell no. What did you do to those things?

I bought a used rx8 is what i did. I still had compression but my problem was oil control rings. Can you provide a link with the requirement details of resurfacing?

https://www.mazdabg.com/ftp-uploads/...NT_REPLACE.htm

This one says to replace if any flaking is present. I have seen others that say 2mm is the limit for reuse. I had a few small spots of chrome flaking and my car runs fine. Resurfacing will just take some material off. You don't have any to take off so resurfacing won't work. I would look for some used low mileage/good condition housings to buy on ebay. Resurfacing is $300 per pair anyway. You could probably get two in decent condition for less.

Buy new housings, and write your name on them in something permanent somewhere you will be able to see when the motor is assembled to verify he used the new housings you paid for and not swap them with another pair during assembly when you aren't around.

Better yet, pay him for whatever work he has done so far if he has done any, and get your car out of there.

The fact that he proposed to you that those housings can be resurfaced just tells me he is still up to his same old crap.

Who is doing this rebuild?

wannawankel 05-02-2018 11:47 AM

I'd like to know the same - what shop is doing this work?

Ricky SE3P 05-02-2018 12:01 PM

Turbo Clinic in Miami Florida, also known as 2rotor.net and a few other business names.

Ah.

Thanks for the warning but to be fair he didn't say they could be resurfaced. He recommended replacement.

Well, retract my comment about him saying they could be and being wrong about him stating that.

However I still stand by the idea of writing your name on the new pair. You can never be too careful. This would apply in my opinion with nearly any builder whenever possible, only of course excluding the most reputable shops in the community where that's never a question or concern (and of course their prices reflect, but hey you definitely get what you pay for and those shops craftsmanship matches the bill).

Heres to hopes you get a good rebuild. Will you be reinstalling it yourself?

Thanks for the well wishes. Your advice is solid too. I spoke with the man at Turbo clinic before deciding I needed a rebuild in the first place. He helped me with troubleshooting which was a big help to me, so in appreciation and hearing some good things about him I decided to give him a try. Price was a factor of course I wont lie but being able to communicate is also golden. I realize that most builders are probably accessible too since the rotary community is still alive and well, but I'm here now. He has survived too.

I myself am a business man and have had to adjust some of my own shortcomings when it comes to business ethics and practices. Had I not adjusted my attitude and habits I could have easily failed. I'm sure over time he's made some adjustments. This could be his opportunity at redemption with you guys. Besides, he's giving me a warranty and hopefully I wont be using it.

I do sincerely appreciate your concern though. That's cool of you.

Yes, I'll be reinstalling it myself and have to get a cherry picker. The 2 x 4 method works best for removing the engine lol. Having to stand there with an engine on your shoulder until everything is lined up just isn't an option. Especially since ill be the one lining everything up... haha impossible.

Kevin at rotarresurection also gave me a failing grade, F 😑
so I am going to go for the 100k challenge and buy new housings. I saw some at jim ellis Mazda parts for $500 but when I called they said no one in the country has them in stock.

Does anyone know who has rotor housings the cheapest?
