Rotary Specific SAE Papers

I have collected a variety of rotary specific SAE papers covering everything from the original development of the engine in 1960's to the 787B engine, Renesis developement, Direct injection, turbo applications etc....

Its taken alot of work to get these, so I want to share them with as many folks as possible.

Update: papers can be found here

Dear Brillo:

A very big THANK YOU for sharing those.

I was looking forward to reading SAE papers on the rotary engine and here you go with a excellent collection.

One of the best "stickies" ever...

Thank you again (extensive of course to MazdaManiac for hosting them)

no problem, they are great reads and the more people know the better ideas and discussions we can have.

most of my knowledge comes from reading these kinds of papers then asking the guru's questions.

Red Devil 12-12-2006 11:37 AM

Thanks Brillo, and to MM for hosting the papers...

MazdaManiac 12-12-2006 11:52 AM

I finally got around to reading them this morning. Good stuff.

brillo 12-12-2006 12:12 PM

Everyone give a big thanks to MM also for hosting, if they don't download, now you know who to complain too about bandwidth :)

rotarygod 12-12-2006 12:16 PM

Just so everyone knows, some of those papers and anything likely to appear in the future were not free. Brillo has bought a few and I have bought a couple. They are anywhere from $12 - $30 each depending on if we can download them or need to buy paper copies. When there are a couple of dozen that you want, that eventually adds up. If anyone would like to contribute to this database, please do. I'm going to start compiling a list of the papers that we'd like to have. Please feel free to purchase one or more so it can be uploaded. Here's a good list to start with.

rotarygod, that's a good starting list. Can we make a list of top 5 or top 10 desired papers (that we don't yet have)? That way, maybe some can contribute by buying one or two papers from the list and then uploading the contents here.

rotarygod 12-12-2006 12:55 PM

Pick one that interests you based on it's description. Brillo has an interest in direct injected rotaries so he bought those. I have always been curious about diesel rotaries so I bought those. The Renesis papers we thought would be nice to have for obvious reasons. You get the idea. If it interests you, buy it but please share! We have.

Heh.
I get 50 Gb a month and I'm up around 2 Gb.
Let's see what happens!
The PDF's are pretty small...

bar far, the best info on rotaries i have seen yet guys, great job

ive been looking for real in depth info on DI rotaries....thanks!!!!!!

rotarygod 12-13-2006 01:17 AM

I went through all of my rotary info and I have one that would be very nice to load onto the site. It isn't an SAE paper but it is a very good read. I have Kenichi Yamamoto's book, Rotary Engine, scanned to PDF. All 156 pages of it. It was written in the 70's but is a great learning aid. It is very interesting to see how many ideas were tried back then that some people think are new ideas now. I'll try to get it off to Jeff when I get a chance.

MazdaManiac 12-13-2006 03:08 AM

It is already up. Been there for the past two years.

rotarygod 12-13-2006 01:05 PM

So it is. First on the list. I wonder how I missed that?

You probably weren't looking for it since you already have it.
Or, maybe I need to change my layout to something less subtle:

Hey guys, I'd like to put in my donation to the database but can't seem to find a downloadable link for the papers on the SAE site. Is there a trick to it or do I have to pay for faxing? Do I have to be a member to download?

maxxdamigz 12-13-2006 02:59 PM

Just post up a hitlist of papers to get and a paypal account to make donations. You could become the rx8club librarian! Now isn't that exciting.

ZoomZoomH 12-13-2006 03:21 PM

subscribes for future reference

thanks guys :)

There is a "DRM'd download" option, probably a DRM'd PDF. You could not put that up verbatim for others to use.

shaunv74 12-13-2006 03:55 PM

So I'll have to get them mailed to me, scan them in, then PDF them?

brillo 12-13-2006 04:36 PM

not all of them are downloadable unfortunately, especially the older ones. They add them ove time, but you can bet most pre-1995 papers will have to be mailed to you.

you don't have to be a member, it just makes purchases less expensive.

shaun, that exactly what you'll have to do. Thanks for contributing.

rotarygod 12-13-2006 04:50 PM

Damn Jeff that's pretty harsh, but funny! I probably didn't see it because I was only associating papers with a blue tag.

shaunv74 12-13-2006 05:02 PM

I just ordered SAE 870445 to continue the DISC reading material. I'll let you know when it arrives and I can upload it.

rotarygod 12-13-2006 06:01 PM

Good one! It's not a Mazda rotary but still direct injection in a rotary none the less. Brillo will like that one.
